An Indomitable Spirit Rises from the Ashes
Category: Entrepreneurship | Date: 2002-04-29 |
His business was going down. Cash flow took on the glide angle of a brick. Fear grew, smothering him. When the dust settled, "Creating Excellence Magazine" ...defunct, its founder, Michael Angier... bankrupt. As Michael puts it, "I had the self-esteem of a dead rat."
What happened? Michael believed he was living his dream of helping people grow and prosper through the material offered in his magazine. Yet it failed. That was 1991. According to Henry Ford, "Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently." And, like the Phoenix, a mythical bird who rose from the ashes, Michael rose from the ashes of his failure... smarter... recommitted... and, most importantly, with a deeper sense of self.
Four years later, the Internet blossomed providing the perfect vehicle to launch Michaels next project - Success Networks International. His mission - inform, inspire and empower people to be their best. Here, Michael shares his passion for human potential, believing fervently in the indomitable human spirit. He revels in helping people succeed in all aspects of their lives.
When I talked with Michael about this article, we delved into his last business. Looking back at a challenge can bring meaningful insights. For instance, Michael preaches the philosophy "do what you love to do." As I mentioned, Michael believed he was doing what he loved with "Creating Excellence Magazine."
As we looked back however, Michael shared that an underlying current of fear dogged him..."he might fail just as he had in a previous venture." As a result, he found himself repeating the same mistakes and questioning what he was doing. In spite of positively affirming success and putting on an optimistic expression, the underlying belief dominating Michaels subconscious thought was limitation and lack of self worth. It won.
How can that happen? How can we go out and persistently and enthusiastically pursue what we believe is our passion only to find we have sabotaged ourselves on a subconscious level? This is where self-awareness comes into play. Michael didnt truly know he harbored lackful feelings until he lived through the experience of failing. However, he gained crucial self-awareness to assist in making his next venture, Success Networks International, a hit.
Michael freely shares how difficult it was to suffer such a public failure. Not to mention the self-sacrifice it took to pay off tremendous debt. What a significant experience! One that will help many.
Michaels goal with Success Networks International is to provide an association thats so beneficial, people clamor to join. His commitment - "double members value every two years." To achieve such an important goal requires a willingness to "live in the question" of how to achieve this goal. Every aspect of Success Networks International is now focused on that question. Through such committed focus the answers will surely come because that which we give our attention to expands.
