Are You Still

Category: Entrepreneurship Date: 2001-06-05
While looking through the microscope, I was unable to focus on the coin below.

No matter how much I turned the knob, it just wouldnt focus in.

The image was blurry. Daydreamy. Washed out.

Turning the knob one way produced a completely washed out image.

Turning the knob the other way, the image was milky, grainy, still washed out!

It was totally and completely frustrating!

I just couldnt make out a sharp image no matter how hard I tried. The microscope was busted - broken - not able to do its job!

Kind of like my internet marketing experience at the time!

I found an affiliate program I really liked! Signed up. Went to work.

Then along came another program.

The first one wasnt working very well. So I thought Id try the second one.

After a month or two - still no progress with either one.

The image was still fuzzy, out of focus.

Then along came a program where I could send out postcards. This seemed to be the answer.

Leave the internet behind for a little while.

After 500 or so postcards and little response - this hardly seemed like the answer.

Next it was on to a multi-level marketing program with nutritional supplements.

The idea was to send out tapes. I ordered a slew of tapes. Sent them out.

Little or no response.

Still no clear image. Still trying desperately to turn the knob.

Then I put up a web site. There was this great idea to give away free software.

So I began advertising the free software and even set it up so people could download the software from my web site.

With a few flyers I passed out and then scattered online ads, the response was minimal.

It was back to the drawing board again.

Still a fuzzy image. Still unfocused.

Can you see whats wrong with this picture yet?

The lack of commitment for one. I was program jumping! Which is great if youre into product sampling. But if you want to make money, its a disaster!

We want immediate results!

No immediate results and were on to something else.

But the truth of the matter is that it takes time to develop anything. Time to develop trust - in you as a person - as well as in your product or service.

People want to know that youll be there today, tomorrow, and into the next year. Maybe even the next five years.

Can you commit to something for more than just a day or two (or week or month or even a year)?

Of course Im not recommending that you continue to beat a dead horse - where no matter what you do, nothings going to happen.

You need to see some signs of life. But, also, you cant give up at the first sign of disappointment.

If you can see even a faint glimmer of success, then perhaps its wise to continue on for awhile longer.

Give it some time. Then evaluate.

Is the image clearing up a bit? Are the sales trickling in? Starting to build.

Of course youre experimenting with advertising, arent you?

And if one thing seems to work a bit - you do a little more.

Keep trying. Dont give up. Successful people keep building and building.

Eventually they succeed because they dont give up very easily.

And when they see the image start to come into focus they want to go on until it all clears up and the answer is sharply in front of them.

Theyre focused and theyre successful!

And you should be too!!!
