Develop A Go-Getters Mindset
Category: Entrepreneurship | Date: 2001-05-31 |
Developing a successful web business begins with you.
It's not the Internet, technology, system, education, experience, knowledge, the type of business you are in, and so on. While these are important items, they are only tools. And what do you do with tools? You build. You construct something. You take your tools and utilize them to create something out of nothing.
Now, since this is a level playing field, and everyone has access to the exact same tools as each other, why do some become successful while others flounder in their online endeavours? What is the variable in this equation? Again I say, it is you. I go more into depth on this and other related topics in my newsletter, which you can access with the link at the end of this article.
It's difficult to cover the most important points in the alotted space here, but I will try to summarize my thoughts as best I can. You decide how successful your Web venture will be. It all depends on your personal self-development. There is a wealth of knowledge online, available to everyone. So why don't more people proactively do what it takes to glean that knowledge?
Let's break down the Internet entrepreneurial population into three groups.
A certain percentage of entrepreneurs online are go-getters, who aggressively go after the necessary data that will make them successful. The majority of people "somewhat" try to find what they need. Some of this second group stumble onto something, and some give up after a few tries or many tries. And the third group is comprised of those who wait for someone to come along and hand them the information.
Now, picture in your mind these three groups of people, and see them in ratios of about 20-60-20. Where do you think the winners are going to emerge from, the top 20 percent or bottom 20 percent? Now, think of this. Where are you? Are you a go-getter? You have to do absolutely everything in your power to duplicate the successful people, and to get after it, to master the strategies needed to win.
Define what you want from your efforts. Make a choice to focus on your goal and to eliminate everything else that is irrelevant to achieving that goal. This is my personal philosophy, which I call the Rule Of Fixation. Go-getters do not allow themselves to be distracted by anything else but only allow themselves to think daily about what they want to achieve.
The gurus on the Web today started out the same as you did, enduring challenges and frustrations, but through maintaining consistency in all areas of their personal self development and web business focus, drove themselves to success. There are no overnight success stories. If you look at the background of anyone who has achieved success, you will discover that for an extended period of time leading up to their breakthrough, they were focused on developing themselves, their product, their service, their idea, and so on. It's only when they explode onto the scene that everyone takes notice and calls it an overnight success.
The only way to instant riches is by winning a lottery, sweepstakes family inheritance, lucking out on the stock market, etc. The odds of those are slim, and in comparison, the odds of making it in business for yourself are much better. And the way to increase those odds dramatically is to put yourself in the go-getter category. Stop running in circles, wasting your valuable time on activities that do not produce results. When you are working on your business, work on your business. That does not include playing games, hanging out in unproductive chatrooms, idly surfing the Net for jokes and cartoons, and so on. I know because I am guilty of it myself.
At the end of the week, if you boil down how much time online you actually spent working on your self-development and business activities, you want to have the satisfaction of knowing that they took up the majority of your time. The unproductive activities I mentioned will not pay you. They will not make you successful. They are time-wasters and potential-killers. They are the activities of the bottom 20 percenters, not the top.
Develop a focus and mindset that is determined to reach the top of the mountain, and that nothing is going to stand in your way. Understand that things will only stand in your way if you let them. Like I mentioned at the beginning of the article, the biggest variable in your online success is you. You have to make it happen. You have to decide that you aren't going to sit around and wait for something to develop, but that you are going to aggressively develop something.
The biggest ingredient in achieving personal success in any venture is belief. Belief that you can do it. Because you can. The current web gurus are human just like you. They were born, had a childhood, went to school, endured negative circumstances, and so on. The only difference is, they made the decision to do it no matter what. And some of them had bigger challenges than you do.
Success story after success story illustrates the persistency that drives people on to achieve great things, and a pattern emerges after a while: out of a very negative and seemingly hopeless situation somebody rises victorious, fighting every step of the way until they make it. And all around them, the naysayers who told them the whole time that they might as well give up, now change their song to say that it was luck that this individual succeeded. That they were somehow lucky. Yeah right.
Go-getters reprogram themselves for success, they ignore the naysayers and their surrounding circumstances and they plunge ahead. Are you a go-getter?
This is not just some psycho-babble intended to pump you up and then send you on your way with no hope in heaven of achieving your goals. I want to make it clear that I am saying develop yourself first. Read, study, think, strategize, focus on what you want, never give up. The decisions you make today determine your outcome tomorrow. Develop a go-getter's mindset.
