Do You Jump Into Action Too Soon?
Category: Entrepreneurship | Date: 2002-04-29 |
Have you ever watched surfers? They wait so patiently for that perfect wave. The one they believe will give them the best and longest ride. Sometimes they misjudge and get up too late or the wave peters out. When that happens, they simply paddle out to wait for the next perfect wave.
There is a tendency for many people to jump into action too soon. Theyre excited about accomplishing that next task, starting that next business, developing the next relationship. Of course, there are those who never take action. Theyve allowed fear to overrule their desires. However, this article is about those of you who take action too soon.
What happens when you jump into action before youre ready? When the surfer tries to get up on a wave that isnt well formed, there isnt enough speed to keep her supported and moving forward. Therefore, she has to work harder to stay on her board.
Thats what happens to us when we take action too soon. We havent spent enough time considering our plan and the desired outcome to become comfortable with it. You hear about the process of visualization all of the time. The reason you hear so much about it, is that it works. By visualizing yourself achieving your goals, you move yourself there much faster than mere action can take you.
Why? Because through the process of visualization youve ferreted out any fears that may be blocking you. Youve programmed your sub-conscious mind to believe that the dream youre visualizing is your reality. Youve aligned your belief in the dream with your belief that youre worthy to receive it.
Napoleon Hill said it better than anyone. "What the mind of man can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve." He wasnt talking about our brains believing the concept. He was talking about consistency between our desires and our beliefs about our worthiness to achieve those desires.
Here are some steps to help you obtain the optimum results from your visualizations.
1. Spend whatever time you can visualizing yourself as if you are actually living your desire. These sessions can be 15 minutes or 30 seconds. Its the quality not the quantity that counts.
2. A key to remember in visualization is that you must evoke your feelings. Youre not looking at your visualization as if youre watching yourself through the lens of a camera. Youre actually living your desire in your mind.
3. Notice any feelings of doubt that surface. Bless that doubt and return to your visualization.
4. Know that doubt is signaling a belief that you hold which disagrees with achieving your dream. Remember - beliefs are only thoughts that youve thought about in the same way over a long period of time. They can be changed.
5. When youre able to visualize your desire and you believe that youre worthy to achieve it, you are aligned and ready to take action. That action will be inspired.
Its important to know that desire comes from Universal mind. According to Websters dictionary the word desire is derived from desiderare - to await from the stars. Isnt that beautiful?
I leave you with this great quote from Thoreau "If a man advances confidently in the direction of his dreams and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined (visualized), he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours."
