How to bring your ideas to fruition
Category: Entrepreneurship | Date: 2001-09-27 |
A couple of years ago I put an article together entitled "10 Top Ways To Generate Brilliant Ideas". It presented ten different lines of thought that you could practically use to bring together a vital part in your success; your ideas.
Today I want to get into developing ideas past the concept stage. Lets face it, an idea on its own is just that; an idea. Ideas are the starting point. They are where your brainchild is born. It is here where your thoughts culminate to put your best foot forward. Ideas are the basis for everything we do. Ideas give us direction and purpose.
However its what we do with these ideas that really counts. Our ideas must be developed. We need application. Its when the idea has momentum that we need to move with it giving it the attention it deserves.
Too often ideas fall by the wayside never to see fruition as they arent supported by desire to apply its thoughts. In fact I know of so many cases where people came up with excellent ideas but for some reason or another never put the time in to realize them. Its such a waste.
A very good friend of mine had some of the best ideas Id ever seen. In fact he had gone so far as to think it through almost in its entirety as to how it could be applied. He was psyched. He was so excited. He had put a plan down on paper going into immense detail. Very thorough thinking. Unfortunately, thats where he stopped.
Hes not alone. In fact he is very much a part of the majority. Human nature seems to peter out at the "action" stage. Why is this? Why do people go so far as to develop a credible idea to the point that it has become a well laid out plan only to not just slow down from a sprint to a walk but to come to a complete stop? Why?
Its almost like creating the perfect recipe then refusing to ever cook it. Heres the difference:
The idea cant be the first stage. It must occur after stage one. For your idea to be generated there must generally be a reason. If the reason isnt personal enough then its probably not close enough to your heart to make the difference. Of course, if its the wrong reason and youre doing it because of that then you know that it wont give you the satisfaction you need to take your task to the end.
Try this on for size:
(i) Goals/Dreams
(ii) Solidify Those In Step (i)
(iii) Visualize
(iv) Develop Your Ideas
(v) Take Affirmative Action
THE RECIPE FOR YOUR IDEAS!!!
It all comes back to the basics. Since the majority of us seem to skip at least one of the first three steps then steps (iv) and (v) cant be optimized.
Take your goals, dreams and desires and put them in a large mixing bowl (ensure your bowl is large enough). Mix them together and let them brew in the corner.
Dependent upon the mixture you may need to continue mixing until the ingredients have solidified.
With a spoon take out small portions of the mixture and place each portion where you can see them. Almost like bread the better portions will rise before your eyes.
Take your favorite pieces and knead them a bit as you develop its shape.
Finally - bake it until done at the correct temperature using a high action oven.
Your ideas are important. You deserve the best so develop them. Develop them well and your success is without a doubt another step closer.
