My Tool Doesnt Work!
Category: Entrepreneurship | Date: 2001-07-16 |
If I had a dime for everytime someone says to me that:- '..Internet Marketing doesn't work..', then I would already be a billionaire!
I still find it hard to understand why normal, reasonably intelligent people believe that just by having a useful tool at their disposal that it entitles them to automatically become a master of their craft.
Even the fact that the Internet is the most awesome and amazing Marketing tool ever invented is irrelevant. A tool is a tool.
The most gifted and talented artists in the world, have to have the correct brushes and paints.
A world famous pianist needs a decent piano.
A successful writer must have a word processor, or at least a pen to write with!
A top Surgeon must have the correct surgical equipment.
I could go on, but the point I am making is, if all of these people gave their tools to someone else, would that other person then automatically be a master craftsman as well?
Of course not.
Just as with anything else, you have to learn how to use the tools of the internet properly to make a success of it.
The good news is you don't have to study for years and years, to learn how to use these tools.
The bad news is it will take you longer than a week to understand enough to start making money!
Unfortunately most people who sign themselves up for an affiliate program think that a week, or two at the most, is plenty of time to learn how to promote their website. And when they don't make any money after this amount of time, they complain that the program '...does not work..'
So they sign up for another program and guess what? They find that the new one doesn't work either!
I know people who have placed an ad in an ezine once, usually a free ad, which means it is placed in the worse possible position at the bottom, in-between tons of other free ads.
They were surprised by the lack of response to their promotion campaign, and promptly proclaimed that '..ezine advertising doesn't work..'
The same thing happens with all types of promotion tools.
I know someone else who had heard that pay-per-click search engines were a great way to promote their site.
However, to 'see if it worked' they chose an obscure keyword, because it was cheap, and when they got a low response rate, guess what they said? '....pay-per-click doesn't work...'
There are many other examples, I could go on forever! But all I am really saying is, if you are really serious about making money online, and if you are not making any at the moment, then step back for a while.
Look at what you are doing. Look at what others are doing and learn. Ask questions. Don't be afraid to take your time to master things. Take one program, one promotion method, and learn, learn, learn, until you get it right!
Then once you are a master of one thing, you can go on to something else and repeat your success.
But above all don't blame the tools!
