Whats In It For You?

As a coach, I deal a lot with helping my clients find out what really motivates them. Whether its being motivated to stretch for a really big goal, complete an important project or discovering the best way to market a new business, knowing what motivates you is an integral step in the process.
Working without knowing what truly motivates you is like sailing a boat without a rudder -your course is going to meander and you may not reach your destination. On the other hand, when you have a clear sense of what motivates you, greater focus results and you inherently take more decisive action steps towards your desired outcomes.
Knowing what motivates you can also help you determine how and why you may be "sabotaging" your own efforts by either actions (or inaction) that may be detrimental to the desired outcomes.
Motivators come in many forms and from many sources - both internal and external. Ultimately, though, theres some sort of a payoff. And the payoff may not necessarily be something you gain, but also may be something you avoid - like conflict, for example.
I encourage you to find some time this week to discover what motivates you. Sit quietly with yourself, or even better, find a great coach to help you. During this time, do some brainstorming and list everything that motivates you - either positively or negatively. Dont over analyze - just list.
Once youve made the list of motivators, rank them from most to least influential.
Now look at your list and rankings. Do they accurately reflect what is most motivating for you? Find ways to build the positive motivators into your life and watch your performance soar!
