When Computers Are Smarter Than Us
Category: Entrepreneurship | Date: 2001-09-06 |
Moore's law asserts that computing power doubles every 12 to 18 months. This leads us to the conclusion that within the next 20 years, the computing power of a PC will exceed that of a human brain. According to the scientists, the overall capacity of the human brain is restricted to 100 trillion connections.
With the speed, accuracy and knowledge-sharing ability that machines will possess, when one computer learns a skill it will be able to share that knowledge instantaneously with billions of others. The resulting network of computers, powered by ever more intelligent software, will exceed the computational power of the human brain by billions of times.
What will happen to us when a computer achieves a level of intelligence greater than ours? Are we going to control computers or are computers going to control us?
An area in which we can conceivably stay ahead is the spirituality and philosophy of life - two concepts that are sorely missed today - and let machines do the work.
It might be time to reach deep within ourselves and activate more than the 8% of our brain that we get by on now.
