How The Web Hosting Industry WILL Affect Your Business
Category: Free Services | Date: 2002-08-13 |
Locating the proper web hosting company for your business is NOT a chore to be taken lightly...
As I've built my financial independence online over the past few years, I've had the opportunity to sample a number of web hosting companies. I'd like to invite you to take a moment and learn from my experience in this area.
The following information contains everything I wish I had known before I made the critical decision of where to host my web site.
While surving my own hosting ordeals, I learned the following about the web hosting industry....
Basically, web hosting services fall into one of three categories:
1) Free
In a nutshell, free sites mean no frills, someone else's domain, a few meg of storage and no tech support.
2) Budget
Budget hosting is usually under $30/mo and can look very attractive. This is the option I myself chose more than once, until my nightmarish experience wised me up.
(Read on!)
3) Full service
Usually $30+/month with 24 hour, seven day live response support. Something serious cyber-business owners should demand.
Now at first glance, from the list above there is no simple choice, especially for the "new to the web". Like me, you may be tempted to save a few bucks when signing up with a web host provider.
But let me explain why this decision deserves careful consideration...
Choice one above, the free hosting is excellent for personal, family, hobby or club, and "for fun" webmastering - NOT for business. In order to operate a profitable business online, you will require much more file storage space and ownership of your own domain name.
Without a professional appearance, a business loses credibility instantly and has a strike against it before it even starts.
Choice two above, the budget hosting, is a popular choice among many small business owners. But there is a danger lurking in many of these budget hosts. I learned this first-hand.
Here's the problem in a nutshell... While most of the low-cost web hosting companies "promise" free tech support, the fact is, they simply cannot deliver on their promise. Their low rates and constant customer turnover simply do not allow most of these companies to deliver on this promise of "support".
What you are left with is a level of support and assistance far below what most small businesses require to prosper online. One such popular low-cost host left my entire site dead for over a week while I scrambled frantically to save my business. Heck, I couldn't even reach anyone or get them to return my plea for help. When the dust settled, they had lost the backups of my entire site and I was left to fend for myself.
The simple fact is, web hosting companies of this budget category usually end up costing you more money in downtime and time-consuming non-support than you could ever save with their low rates.
Which finally brings us to choice three - Professional, high quality web hosting. Yes, you'll pay a little more for this option, but the fact is, you get what you pay for. If you are serious about your business and more importantly, your time, consider using professional level hosting.
A professional level hosting company will be ready to help you any hour of the day, any day of the week. And since your website is the lifeblood of your online presence, this is a service you simply cannot do without.
Now that you have the facts, I invite you to join our growing mass of "web wise" customers at Virtualis.
Virtualis is where I host my own site. Why? Simple...
I get features like web based site management - instead of just FTP, multiple T3 lines to load my pages quickly, and most importantly, 24 hour "Live tech support". It's no wonder Virtualis is earned the reputation as the support leader in an overcrowded industry.
Simply put, Virtualis offers the best web hosting on the internet. I wouldn't trust my own website with any other host - and neither should you.
