Is the Home-Based Business Important to the Economy?
Category: Home Based Business - Finance | Date: 2003-06-18 |
Given the events that have happened recently, many of us felt like throwing in the towel. But building your business is something that you must keep on doing.
Granted, the economy doesnt look strong with the slide that the markets took after the attacks on the World Trade Center a few months ago. It was the 14th worst day on Wall Street in American history. The market fell 13% in the crash of 1929. It fell around 7% after the attacks.
But we now must keep our chins up and face the enemies squarely. The first enemy will be dealt with severely, because of their unprovoked attack upon innocent people.
The second enemy, complacency, is a more insidious killer. We must pull ourselves together and continue to build our lives. And our businesses. The financial future of our families, and America, depends somewhat on the small, home-based business builder.
You are probably thinking by now, "How do I get involved in a home-based business?"
- Do your homework. There are several ezines that can guide you. They can give you recommendations that they have researched or are involved in. Here are a few:

You are probably also thinking, "Are there really any home-based businesses that are legitimate, and not scams?" Here are some tips to check out potential home-based businesses.
- What I sometimes do is check out a business with the Better Business Bureau. Go to the main BBB website and look for the local bureau where the company is located. It will take some time, but could be well worth it.
- Check out a company with friends or associates who are involved with the company or are in the know about such things.
- In extreme cases check the Attorney Generals website in the state where the company is located. But you usually only do this when you want to prove its a company NOT to get involved in.
Tips
- Running a home-based business can be rewarding. But you also need to regard it as a business, not a hobby. You will be at home with your family, but in the beginning you will need to devote lots of time to your new business.
- If you plan on working and running a business at home, you will need to devote week nights and weekends to it. Your goal, of course, is to replace your work income with your home-based income.
- Plan your time and stick with the plan. If you miss a time period allotted to your business, dont beat yourself up. Dont make it a habit or you will grow cold and lose the motivation to build your business.
Get Going
So get out there and get the economy going, folks! All kidding aside, the small business person is an important part of the economy. With new business startups and the eventual cash that it produces, economic conditions can and will improve.
