The Start-up Cost Blues
Category: Home Based Business - Finance | Date: 2003-06-18 |
One of the chief concerns I am running across lately is being voiced by many. That it costs money to get involved in a good Internet marketing business. Well, I dont know
about you, but it is becoming one of my pet peeves.
Some folks believe that the Internet is a "money tap" that requires no effort whatsoever to turn on. Just slap up a free website, advertise in one ezine, and set back and wait for the riches to gush into their bank account.
Well, Bosco, dream again. Bosco is an imaginary fellow I know. Remember Fang, Phyllis Dillers invisible hubby? (Oops, I may be giving away my advanced age here! LOL!) Fang and Bosco are cousins. As I recall Fang was always looking for the easy way out, as in free and zero effort.
Bosco is a little better. He knows it will take an investment of money AND time. But he doesnt think it will take much. Maybe 20 bucks and a month of effort to be rich, rich, rich! You all laugh at this, but how many of us really believe it is true?
You need to apply yourself both monetarily and effort-wise. Yes, it will take discipline in the areas of your money and time. (Uh-oh even I am shuddering at that one. Discipline! If I can be honest, my lazy flesh says, "Yuck!".)
You know that it is a tough word but the folks that have made good money on the Internet, (name dropping time, de-pending on who you want to impress, LOL!), have found that spending some of their money and time was required.
Will you need to work, work, work? Well, yes the first number of months until the money is flowing well, not in drips and drabs. After a certain time you can see your
family again. (Just kidding!) After a certain amount of time you would have built a business and could slack off some.
Remember, the money and time you invested in this first number of months will need to be maintained. You are running a business. If a fast-food restaurant stopped selling
hamburgers, you know what would happen. No sales + no money = out of business!
Another thing to think about. The average cost to start an Internet marketing business is a couple hundred bucks. That is not a fortune. A Subway franchise costs $50,000! So an Internet marketing business is very, very affordable!
By the way, Bosco has decided that he needs to change his attitude about Internet marketing. He has decided that the start-up costs associated with these businesses arent that costly.
He has figured out that if he invests just a few dollars in a business, he will give up too soon. He didnt invest much money, so he can walk away when he gets discouraged and give up.
But if he invested a little his hard-earned money, he will put more effort into his business. He wants to succeed and not be subject to Mr. Crabapples blow-ups and threats at work.
