How To Earn Huge Profits From Your Hobbies

Category: Home Based Business - Getting Started Date: 2003-06-17
How do you spend your leisure time? What do you do for fun? What activities result in time flying by?

For me, I absolutely love to sit down and brainstorm new, innovative ideas. I also cant get enough listening to and playing blues music. (I happen to be the most underrated, lowest paid blues guitar player on the planet - at least in my own mind.)

I completely lose track of my surroundings when I spend time on these activities.

Strangely, the things that we get the most enjoyment from are usually the last things we consider when choosing a business or product idea.

You know how you feel when you spend time on activities you enjoy. You have experienced the balance between your body and mind, the clarity of thinking, the hope you get from dreaming and the natural high you get from playing with your passion.

Here are the advantages of developing an information product around your hobbies:

1) You already know the market, the desires of those within the market and most of the information on how to meet those needs. All you need to do is select a burning issue, create a hot headline to capture attention and address the want in the simplest way possible.

2) The minimal work you will put into developing your product should be a labor of love - time will fly by. You will really wonder why you are getting paid for what you have developed.

3) Your experience, credibility and passion will guarantee that your product will sell with very little effort. You see people these days are looking for a dream, and they will buy anything that lets them live that dream. Think of yourself as a dream weaver... hmmm sounds like a song doesnt it?

4) The bottom line is, you can get a hot information product to market based on your hobby to market within days - its perhaps the single best method for getting your own product to market fast.

The secret that makes turning your hobby into an information product is that the passion you communicate will draw customers to you like a fly to flypaper.

You see we all want buy into dreams. Even the most jaded people in society still hold on to some form of hope, or dream. By tapping into your passions and finding others who share those passions - you are feeding their veracious appetite to be a part of a dream.

How many times have you put off buying a product that you thought you needed? I have needed a new vacuum cleaner for months now, but until that sucker gives its last vrrrrrm... I am going to keep coming up with reasons why I shouldnt spend the money today.

But, how many times have you bought something immediately, or almost immediately after you have saw it because, by god, I wanted it....No I HAD to have it. Now chances are that product fit aligned with one of your passions.

Everytime I see ANYTHING to do with blues music or especially Stevie Ray Vaughan - I HAVE to have it. Could I live without it, absolutely. Would I spend my last $10 on it, sorry to say but Yup.

So try this technique out, spend a few minutes (really thats all this will take) and come up with some ideas for developing information products based on your hobbies, heres how.....

Step 1: Set aside 10 minutes TODAY to recall the five most enjoyable activities you can recall over the last year. Which ones stick out in your mind? If you have trouble, think of it another way; if you didnt have any other responsibilities (work, family, social) what would you spend time doing? You should be able to come up with at least 3 - thats a good start.

For an example, I am going to come up with some examples.

- Setting up a small business
- Playing my guitar
- Renovating my basement

Step 2: Write each interest down at the top of a separate piece of paper and force yourself to put a number from 1 to 3 beside each one based on which one you enjoyed the most. 1 is for the most enjoyable, 3 the least.

Step 3: Take 5 minutes for each page and list all of the things you enjoyed about that activity. Using my examples:

Setting up a small business
- talking about my products with others
- seeing the orders come in on a daily basis
- drawing positive feedback from my peers

Playing my guitar
- playing an entire song
- hearing my own recording in mp3 format
- playing in front of a group

Renovating my basement
- planning the design of the rooms
- building the walls, seeing it take shape
- seeing my kids enjoy the room I built

STEP 4. Write down the problems, challenges or frustrations you encountered when doing each activity. Once again using my examples:

Setting up a small business
- coming up with a product to sell
- designing and testing my web site
- bringing together all of the back-end systems required to run the business

Playing my guitar
- practising an endless array of scales and chords
- spending weeks trying to understand how to make my own home recording
- learning enough songs and making contacts to play in front of a group

Renovating my basement
- Learning how to wire up my electrical system
- Finding trades people for specific tasks I couldnt do on my own
- Estimating the cost before starting

STEP 5. Rephrase your problem statements in the form
of a question or multiple questions, and do the same
for your enjoyments. I wont do this for everyone
of my problems or enjoyments, it will only take a few
to demonstrate the potential of this technique:

Setting up a small business
- What products can I sell?
- How to create profitable products for you to sell?
- How can I quickly and inexpensively test my products?
- Where can I find the best back end systems to use?

STEP 6. The final step, answer your questions? In other words, create some responses to your questions like I have done here:

Setting up a small business
- Finding profitable products to sell for your business.
- The top 10 selling product categories on the net.
- Create Your Own Products Using A Pen and Paper.
- 10 Drop-dead simple test methods to make sure your product will sell.

You get the idea....

Using this technique you should be able to easily create 30 or more product ideas in less than 30-minutes.

Now what about the enjoyable activities. Do the same thing and you will get more product ideas, but even better, you will have several benefits you can use to sell your information product once it is completed.

For instance, your product "10 Drop-dead Simple Test Methods To Make Sure Your Product Will Sell" will result in "Seeing orders come in daily" and "Lead To Praise From Your Peers".

Finally, the most important thing about this technique is that the product ideas you develop will be:

A) Aligned with your passions, and
B) Something you already know allot about
