Help! Ive Got Abraham Lincoln Web Marketing Syndrome
Category: Home Based Business - is it for YOU? | Date: 2003-06-19 |
July 4, 1995 -- I vividly remember lying in bed that night, unable to sleep, because all I could think about was getting my first check. I had recently joined an MLM called FCI (Freedomstarr Communications, Inc), and was overly excited to say the least.
Their sales letter, like that of nearly all MLMs, boasted unlimited potential. "Build a strong downline, and youll be a millionaire in no time!" they said. It seemed simple enough -- so I got to work immediately, walking from door to door --- slipping brochures for "Cheap Long Distance" into a crevice where unsuspecting victims would eventually place their hands. Id go into AOL chat rooms, and plug the program in every possible situation. Dreams of wealth, prestige, and $250,000 cars were dancing in my head.
Well, the check finally arrived. I had my whole family sitting at the kitchen table, pumped up at the idea of MLM, eager to see what was inside the envelope, and...
BAM! A check for two dollars and ninety-three cents. My ego was shattered. I told myself Id never do anything like that again.
They were childhood dreams of ecstasy, I suppose. And, as you know (well, you *are* reading this article, arent you?) I pressed on. I did not, however, go back to MLM. That business had left a bad taste in my mouth that I never wanted to experience again. I wanted to create my *own* success. My one desire was to prove to myself, and to my family, that I was not a failure.
Now, before I go any further with the story, lets take a look at the life of Abraham Lincoln, former President of the United States.

Now, take a good long look at the following abridged timeline of my career in online business, which is much like that of good ol Honest Abe
|------
1995: Failed in MLM. Started playing around with HTML
1996: Tried bulk e-mail, and failed miserably
1997: Set up a web site to sell a particular software package, and put countless hours into it... failed miserably.
1998: Spent the year vigorously studying e-commerce, online business, graphics, and web design. Then, wrote an eBook, built a site, and... failed miserably.
1999: Went back to study. Started a new site: The WebProZone. No traffic. Pieced together a membership-based web site, which also failed miserably.
2000: Stopped reading about eBusiness, and started practicing and fine-tuning what was learned from all those books.
Rebuilt The WebProZone, and started driving a great amount of traffic to the new site. Wrote a beginners course in web marketing, which soon became a hit. By the end of the year, web design was bringing in a good amount of capital.
2001: Scammed out a large sum of money. Lost bank account. Started working two jobs, and began publishing a weekly newsletter, The Cre@tive Marketer. Traffic to The WebProZone, and density of web design jobs has been increasing steadily since then...

A lot of-called "experts" say that 95% of online businesses failwithin the first year. Heres my theory: 75% of those businesses that fail, did so because they simply gave up too soon.
No, Im not referring to the multi-million dollar dot-BOMBs. Its home based business owners like you who can, and *will* succeed, if you only persevere. Heck, if you get started now, you may be able to pull a bigger profit than the 75% of IPOs today that wont be profitable until the year 2024.
Im nineteen years old, and I make $50,000 a year from my online business. If I can do it, then so can you. Wallowing in your own self pity will get you nowhere. Abraham Lincoln knew this, and those who succeed in online business understand the concept just as well, if more so.
Get back on your feet no matter what happens. Determination is essential. Persistence is key. And, if you refuse to throw in the towel, success is *imminent*. I can guarantee that if you keep at it, you will succeed -- even if you are a thirteen-year-old punk, walking down the street, handing out brochures for the latest MLM gimmick.
