I give up!
Category: Home Based Business - is it for YOU? | Date: 2003-06-22 |
Most days I really love the comfort of being able to "work" with my shoes off, take a "break" when I cannot stand one more minute without one, (you know the routine, on the way to the rest room I can not only put on another cup of tea, but also throw a load of the never-ending laundry into the washer, dryer or both, swipe off the kitchen table and counters as I whiz by, etc.) and then get back to "work" after that ten minute break!
I love the interacting with fellow webmasters and webmistresses, engaging in brilliant conversations with my buddies in between "business" messages and the feeling of gratification I get with every positive "pat on the head" from treasured customers, associates or my subscribers. This is the motivation that gets me to spend 12 to 16 hours a day, every single day, sitting in this dreary home office staring at electronic gizmos and gadgets. But not today!
I had to spend over an hour this morning just downloading JUNK mail that would end up taking another ten minutes for my poor over-worked trash bin to empty so I could weed through and find maybe the 20 GOOD ONES out of the 750 awaiting me today. This so I could spend another hour unsubscribing all of the email addresses that bounced back the entire issue of Rim Digest I sent out so proudly and with so much love and labor yesterday.
Next, I got to argue with an unhappy "potential" customer who after letting me spend 3 HOURS copying and pasting (and reformatting!) all of the info in a 20 page web site because he SAID he could not surf to get the information he wanted, decided I was trying to rip him off with the big $15 sale I stood to make for all of my efforts!
No, that is not enough. My PC keeps getting viruses accidentally sent to me by none other than my beloved subscribers and I have been told by two out of the three this month that did it that I am "picking on them or singling them out", like everybody does it so whats the problem?! The problem is that I have already lost a perfectly good 2 year old PC due to one accidentally transmitted virus and I cannot afford to lose this new one to one, too! Never mind that after buying a new PC in August of this year and spending another $100 on the newest and best virus protection I could find I had to shell out another $30 for updates with the last new crop of viruses.
My web pages get spammed by people knowing I must want their sales message because it always says "Information you requested" when they mail to me from my pages, I had to take off my feedback forms because those spammers do not stop with ONE of their wonderful ads they consider my purpose for having that tool there for, NO, they have to send them at the rate of 20 or more per day! I have, on the average, of 20 to 40 new ads come in each day for placement in my ezine, and half of those are in straight out defiance of many if not ALL of my guidelines, which are, incidentally, stated in not only every issue but also in the welcome letter I send to new subs! I get ones so loaded up with html that their message comes in and stops at 40% making me have to hit "reply" to even SEE what they sent and then at least one out of ten of those freezes up my pc so I have to reboot!
I get autoresponders and illegal addresses and the other day I got an Ezine Publisher who subscribed to Rim so that when I sent his issue out I got HIS thank you for subscribing, 30 times in a row, right on the end of the issue! I get free ad submitters who write and tell me off because they do not like MY guidelines on their sending of an ad and since they are doing ME a service, I should conform to their rules!
I have had it, I cannot do this, no one really appreciates me or the work I do! The outside world is sure that all I ever do is sit on my butt and play on my computer and maybe that is the idea! If I could stand to play games and maybe just surf and shop and chat, I could have some real fun here!
I quit! I give up! I do not have what it takes to do this anymore!
Okay, well, maybe I can stick it out just one more day, or week, or month or year, but I am serious, I am just about fed up!
Whew! I feel better now and that will tide me over until the next time in two or three months when I get ready to quit again!
Thanks so much for listening!
