There Really Isnt an Easter Bunny?

Category: Home Based Business - Marketing Date: 2003-06-19
"Secret" this and "Secret" that. Theres more secret millionaire making programs on the Internet than there are hidden eggs on an Easter Sunday. And they are all packaged just like those beautiful little eggs. If youve been "surfing" on this box at all, youve seen them. All promising to hold gold inside.

Well boys and girls, I hate to burst your bubble, but there is no Easter Bunny. Therefore, hes not passing out gold-filled eggs. Those eggs you find are hard boiled chicken eggs. Chances are, you colored them yourself (If you are over the age of 30). Otherwise, they are plastic, and filled with dental decaying, diabetes causing sugar. Either way, theres no secret and theres no magic.

Note: For those of you in the world not familiar with our Christian ritual of taking our most important religious holidays and deluding them with a bizarre and non-connected character, the Easter Bunny is an egg-totting rabbit that magically appears on Easter Sunday. Yes, it is a weird combination. But thats a whole different article.

In any case, do not despair! Im not saying you cant make a great deal of money using the Internet as a vehicle to do so. Financial Independence and a fruitful life can be attained. Im just saying that the only secret is... that there isnt one.

One of the most popular ways to try and get rich on the Internet right now is for silvery-tongued hucksters to get us, desperate-to-find-a-way-out-of-our-rut folks, to buy their "Get Rich With My Secret" programs. But do you ever notice that these guys are the only ones making it rich off of their programs?

See if you can make any sense out of the following.

If I get rich off of my program by selling a million of them, then why arent their a million more millionaires running around out there?

Before I answer my own question, I need to clarify something. Its not my fault that you dont make it rich off of my program, as long as what I am preaching is legitimate. And while many programs are "bunk," many are legitimate ways in which you can earn a very good living. Theyre just not secrets. And some of these people are truly sincere in their offer to try and help you succeed.

But you must believe something that most people cant. Success is not like a pie. The idea that there is only so much success to go around is simply paranoid thinking caused by envy.

We will even sabotage our best friend in order to keep our relationship on an equal financial footing. It is human nature to do so. And corporate managements thrive on it. It keeps us in line. And it keeps us stuck in our rut.

Heres an example to make my point clear. Legitimate Network Marketing organizations have about two people out of every hundred become financially successful. Out of the entire population, you will have barely 2% who would consider venturing into Network Marketing. If you are thinking, "Well duh!! With those odds, it would take a fool to try it!" Then you are in the "success is like a pie" mind set. You dont see yourself as the person that works hard and smart enough to be one of the successful ones. You automatically put yourself in the other group. For you, the "pie" has been made and eaten.

The odds dont control the success rate. People do. If everyone were to do what it takes to become successful, there would then be a 100% success ratio.

Getting back to the original question: If I have read one "How to get Rich" book, I have read twenty. PT Barnum coined the fraise "theres a sucker born every minute" and I must (begrudgingly) admit to being one.

And after 25 years of business experience, and working with all kinds of people, the ONLY common thread shared by all the successful ones, is the fact that they ALL invest in themselves.

Im not only talking about financial investment, even though it is important.

I am talking about a total and complete commitment to their endeavor. Simply put, they invest their soul. And that investment is what gets them thru the disasters. And they have them just like the rest of us. The difference is that at some point, we give up. They do not.

Their business ending disasters simply become hurdles that they overcome. They learn how to get over each and every one of them. They dont throw in the towel and go looking for the next big money maker.

But the knocks can be hard. And most of us would rather buy a lottery ticket and pray we win, than invest in ourselves. For the record, gambling is not investing.

The point is this: You must learn the basics of how to make your business run, and the basics of how to market your business. You may want to hire people to do that stuff for you. But you must learn it first, and keep learning it. Because those are the components of your business that will constantly revolve. Not the other way around. I have spent a lot of time teaching principles of marketing. It doesnt matter what your product or service is, as long as your customer is a human being, marketing is marketing. And most people dont really understand what marketing it is.

But I have found that unless you are in the right frame of mind and heart, learning it will do you no good.

I continue to see a mass of people jumping from one legitimate business opportunity to another to another. Trying for three to six months to make each of them work in exactly the same manner as they did the one before. Perhaps the lack of success is not the business. Perhaps its our lack of investment in ourselves.

But how can you tell if a business proposal is legitimate in the first place?

Pretty simple.

When you see this kind of ad. "Get in early! Do nothing and get paid! Earn $5,000 this week!" Thats pretty much a dead give away, you will be wasting your time and money.

Just remember the Easter Bunny thing. There isnt one.
