The sensibility of partnerships
Category: Marketing Strategy | Date: 2001-04-03 |
Do you remember when you first started out as a sole trader? Id reckon so. Fair chance that you spent tons of time building it up from nothing to making a nichй for yourself. You were more than likely always busy working hell for leather to fulfil your dreams...
Now after a couple of years youre still working quite a lot of hours each week, still getting ahead but the expansion rate has severely been pegged back. Somehow its getting harder rather than easier.
Enter the power of partnerships and joint venture marketing.
Everyone at some point needs the talents of specialists to optimise business functions and enhance marketing position. Many months ago I set up a subscription joint venture with a couple of other publishers that has seen a dramatic increase in my subscriber base. There are many other forms of joint ventures which can be maximised to the mutual benefit of both parties. The basis for such a relationship is the same as between any business and its client; there needs to be win-win for all concerned. JV Marketing costs nothing and optimises resources that are already in place.
I have just taken on a business partner this month who looks after all the tasks that I couldnt and didnt really fancy doing. She specialises now in the aspects of our business that I havent, up until now mastered. It has already increased the efficiency of my business inside a week. This sort of stuff can only be good. Oh yes, my business partner is none other than my very own wife, Alexandra.
Since she came on board my workload hasnt decreased in the slightest. What it has done is allowed me to optimise my resources by doing what I do best - and the same goes for her as well. It is a very strong ingredient in success. There is a term I heard many years ago for those who could not delegate or share job duties and it was "Jack Of All Trades. And Master Of None".
Make a list of the things you have been putting off as you just dont really enjoy these tasks but know that they need to be attended to. Be dead honest with yourself here. You need to be honest enough to write it all down and work out a plan of action as to how it can be done. Sure, maybe you can do it yourself but eventually youll need to get someone else to reduce your admin and general overall workload to allow you to become more efficient.
A very important aspect here is to know when you need assistance. Optimise your resources and you will notice an increase in you and your businessefficiency.
Think Successfully.
