It is amazing just how much kids can teach us about ourselves and our business. Of course, we can't admit this to them! After all, WE are the adults- the leaders who are supposed to set the good example! So, let's keep this information to ourselves for now.
But it is true- we need to take a lesson from our kids. A lesson that reminds of us of how things used to be!
When you were a child, do you remember playing make believe? Even at the age of five you knew you wanted to be a fireman, a policeman, a nurse or a teacher. And didn't you play as if you were one? There was no one in the world that could tell you otherwise. You dressed the part, acting out each role as if it were real. And, what are you doing now? Are you acting as if you were already successful in your business? You should be! Keep writing your newsletters and sending them out as if you had thousands and thousands of subscribers. Dress the part of a busy owner answering your e-mails professionally and as though you were already the expert you want to become. Don't let anyone in the world tell you otherwise!
When you were a child.. "Mom, can I have some candy?" NO! said Mom. "Please", you insisted! "I said NO" repeated your MOM. "But, Mom, just one small piece?" "What part of NO don't you understand?" she shouts! "I promise I'll eat my dinner!" you persist! "ALL RIGHT!" "But, just one!" and she relents! Kids don't usually stop after one "NO", so why do we? Be peristent with your marketing promotions. Dont give up after just a few tries. It takes time to for the cement to dry on a solid foundation for business.
When you were a child, do you remember playing with Playdoh? You molded and shaped and pounded until it came out just right! You gleefully cheered "Look what I did!" Then, didn't it start to lean to one side and maybe even topple over? A kid will pick it up and re-shape that creation to make it right. Become a kid and re-shape your promotions and strategies until you get the responses you want!
As kids, we knew our parents would never quit on us! They didn't have all the answers to our questions. But, they were determined to do the best they could one day at a time. Now that you are an adult, do you have that same determination in your business?
What did you learn from a kid today?
