Effective Use of FAQs
Category: Marketing | Date: 2001-12-17 |
It is no secret that today's consumers do not make the impulse purchase as in years past. They want to make an informed decision about what they are buying and how it will benefit them. That is why hype and slick ads are are no longer as effective as the ads that tell.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) type of campaigns are one of the most effective ways to tell, not sell. FAQ's allow you to gently persuade readers. There are always questions in your readers minds about what your product or service can do for them. Using FAQ's will address these right up front.
Your audience will still need to have the same information you would give them in other ads. They will want to know:
1. What will your products or services do for me?
2. Why are your products/services better than the competition?
3. How will I benefit from them?
4. How can I be sure it will work for me?
Structure this type of campaign around the benefits your customer will gain by owning what you offer. Use your questions to promote your business as though you were standing face to face with your consumers. Word your questions as if your reader were asking them. Use "me and I" so they feel like they are asking it. This will trigger the thought "I wondered about that, too"!
FAQ's can also be an effective way to follow-up with your prospects. It is one powerful solution to informing your audience without constantly pressuring them to buy. You can put your name in front of a prospect without a lot of hype. Since it takes an average of 5-7 contacts before a buying decision is made, use your FAQ's in a few of your messages to your prospects.
Use a series of FAQ's on your web site as well. This can be one way to keep your visitors at your site longer. You can pique their interest in what you offer when you use your Frequently Asked Questions Section to further explain what you can do for them.
Need some ideas for some "FAQ's" about your business? Try answering questions centered around who, what, why, when, where, and how. Then refer to the benefits for your readers in the answer to each one. This will keep you on track and help make the buying decision easier for your prospects.
FAQ's tell your readers that they are not alone when questioning certain aspects of your product or service. It tells them that you are not afraid to answer them and be open and honest with what you have. And if you only market online, this type of credibility is vital.
