Old Fashion Loyalty

Category: Marketing Date: 2001-12-04
As a Marketing Consultant and trainer, I constantly search for fresh material to provide each week. So, I spend hours researching. I review the 150+ Ezines I subscribe to, I visit a minimum of 100 new websites each week and I read mountains of ads. That's just what I find on the Internet.

There's even more to be found in my own library of reference books. I tell you this for two reasons: One, that's the only way I can deliver what I promise you each week - up-to-date information in easy to understand terms so you can be successful in business. And, two, that there is one common message in all the material about effective ads, promotions and marketing.

In every case, the FIRST lesson is to learn the basics of effective marketing. That is you must know and understand EXACTLY what your prospective customers are looking for and how much they will pay for it. Then uncover how these consumers search for what THEY want. Carefully develop a plan to grab their attention and fulfill their wishes.

Our customers are people who relate to the "old fashion" way of doing business. They may use modern technology to find the products or services they need, but they will RELATE to the one business that fulfills the most benefits they are seeking. Customers will STAY LOYAL to the business owner who really shows they care. They want to do business with a person, not a company.

Your challenge is to take the knowledge and skills you have and create the perfect environment for your customers. For a brick and mortar business, that means creating GREAT customer service. You must have a consistent follow up plan that shows your customers how much you value their business. You must do the little, unexpected things to create loyalty.

When you also have a presence online, you must humanize your web site. Put yourself in your business first, then your future customers will trust you.

When I look at web sites on the Internet, I am amazed at how few have any names beyond that of the company. There are so many that don't tell you who they are! They are quick to tell you what they've done in the past, but that does nothing to tell me what they can do for me. If you can't even tell your visitors what your name is, why would I think you'd care about who I am or what MY needs are?

For anyone promoting any business, it must start with the basics. Use your high tech skills and knowledge to uncover the high touch needs of your customers. Do this first, and you will start the LOYAL customer building process the "Old Fashion" way.
