Toll-Free Telephone Numbers Can Cost You Sales
Category: Marketing | Date: 2001-09-20 |
Yes I know a toll-free telephone number for your business can increase response from your customers. But did you realize that international customers can NOT use it? So what do I want... blood? Do I want you to pay for my international calls too?
No. But I'd appreciate the basic facility of an 'ordinary' phone number so I can contact you on MY dime!
In these days of ultra cheap international phone rates, it costs me less to phone from the UK to the USA, than it does to call someone in my own home town. And these inexpensive rates are available in many other countries. Yet it's obvious that many Internet business owners are not aware that so many of their international customers are willing to make inter-continental calls for more information or help.
3 times in the past week I had to email US Webmasters for their 'ordinary' phone number so I could call them. And if it's happening to me so often, how much potential business are you missing because YOUR prospects are unable to call you?
If you're US based it's time to wake up to the fact that life exists outside your country! Internet users are mushrooming at a phenomenal rate all over the world. And the growth of new potential customers is accelerating at an unbelievable speed.
Here in the UK for instance. 3 months ago, if you saw 1 dotcom TV ad per evening you'd be lucky (lucky?). Now I'd guess 1 in every 3-4 advertises a dotcom address. That's in only 3 MONTHS! So if you're only offering a toll-free number you're missing out on a LOT of potential business.
And while I'm on my soap box ....
The address on your contact page .... what does CA mean? I *guess* it's California. But many of the other abbreviations are un-guessable to foreigners. And they do like to know where you're from if they're to take your credibility seriously!
And because of the differing time zones, it could prevent some foreigner from ringing you at 5-00am your time.
Think international.
Think sales.
Think profit.
We're not dumb lunkheads, we're foreigners! And we've lots of plastic cash in our pockets. Please help us spend it!
