What Direct Marketing Is. And Why Its Such A Great Way To Make A Living.

Many people confuse selling with direct marketing.
Selling is one person trying to convince another to buy something. It involves a lot of personal contact, which is pretty distasteful to most of us. When I think of selling, I envision someone going door-to-door, or picking up the telephone and making cold calls.

Although a really good salesperson can make a lot of money, selling offers very little opportunity to create RESIDUAL income. When the salesman takes a day off, so does his income.

Direct marketing is NOTHING like that...

It involves the creation and use of an automated system that sells your product for you. The system performs the whole marketing process. It finds your prospects... convinces them to buy... processes their payment... deposits the money into your bank account, and then delivers the product.

It's an amazing experience...

Once you have such a system in place, it will run quietly along... sometimes for years, cranking out profits. It's the ultimate way to take advantage of "time leveraging" to create an exquisite lifestyle.

Setting up such a system involves the following steps:

Find or create a product that fills a need for a large well-defined group of people.Create an automated order fulfillment system. Develop the necessary salesletters that would get qualified prospects to buy. And then develop a set of ads that would draw those prospects into your salesletters. Locate and utilize the proper communication channels to make your prospects aware of your product and get them going through your system.

From the outside, setting up such a marketing system might sound difficult. It's not. Direct marketing is a 100 year old industry. Every aspect of the business runs on time-tested, proven formulas, so there's very little guess work involved. The only variable is how creative you are.

It's a science... not a lottery.

The fact that 2+2 ALWAYS = 4 has nothing whatsoever to do with luck. It's a mathematical certainty. That's the way this business works. Learn the formulas, apply them creatively, and you WILL make money. It's that simple!

Success in this business has nothing to do with your age, your skin color, your education, or even your physical condition. A 16 year-old can do as well as someone in their 40's or 50's. All that matters is your work ethic and the skills you develop.

When most of us think of security, we think in terms of a job with a big corporation that has a Pension Fund, or Social Security... or something that someone else provides FOR us.

That's not really how life works.

The only TRUE security you'll ever have, resides in your ability to produce.

A professional direct marketer can make more in one month than most people make in a year. And, when you consistently earn $30,000 - $40,000 per month, year after year, then you don't get too concerned about Social Security remaining solvent.

There's security in your LIST!

Satisfied customers will buy again and again. IF you market quality products and provide good service, then over time, you'll build a huge list of satisfied customers. That list will become your security. Then, cranking out an extra $100,000 in a 30 day period can be as simple as finding or creating the next product to run in front of that list.

The MONEY...

I'm afraid that when most of us think about direct marketing, we picture someone barely making a living, running ads for some second-rate product they've created.

While this scenario does exist, my research led me to folks working from a spare bedroom, or a corner office... quietly making a comfortable living. If you call $30,000-40,000 a month comfortable!

You can start broke.
I dare you to find any other business that you can start for less than $150, and within six months be making $45,000 a month. But, that's exactly what happened to me. And, please understand, I'm not referring to some fluke that happens because of a lucky break. I'm talking about using business formulas that produce, EVERY time you apply them correctly.

Growth is self funding.

The conventional approach to launching a business usually involves borrowing a large sum of money... with everyone praying that the business starts turning a profit before the money runs out.

Direct marketing is just the opposite... you can build a business worth millions without ever borrowing a dime.

You start small and re-invest the profits.
Let's say that you own a digitally delivered report called "Secrets to Catching Lunker Bass", and while surfing for good places to advertise your product, you find an ezine called "Bass Lover's Digest".

Sounds like a match! So, you spend $10 to run an ad in one issue. And after it's stopped pulling, you've received $40 in orders. So, you've made $30 profit.

Now I know $30 is probably not gonna have you quitting your job. But there's another way to look at it. In just a few days, you've made a 300% return on your investment. There's not a stock broker alive that wouldn't DIE for that rate of return!

Online, there are MANY appropriate lists in which you can run that ad. And some of those lists are huge. Your game plan should be to re-invest yesterday's profits into today's ad budget. And if you can maintain that 300% return on investment, then in a few weeks, you can parlay that initial $30 into hundreds or even thousands.

This 300% return on investment is an illustration only. But just for the record, I spent $17 on an ad that brought in over $1,000... within two weeks. And that's just from ONE ad... run in front of ONE small list.

In this business, the cash-flow can be immediate.
When I first started selling info-products on the Internet, I couldn't afford the expense of setting up a full-blown merchant account to process my sales. So, I went online looking for other options. What I found was a company in Sioux City, Iowa that would process online-check orders for me. The set-up cost was $40... with a $1 per-check transaction fee.

It wasn't what I really wanted... because I felt that I would get a great deal more business if I could accept credit card payments too, but at the time, the check set-up was all I could afford. In hindsight, it was MUCH MORE valuable than I realized.

Here's why... It paid DAILY.

At the end of every day, the company would print and mail me a check for each sale I'd made. If I got orders every day, then I got checks every day. Those checks allowed me to run more ads and, literally financed the growth of my business. They made the difference.

And they kept me excited. Every day I'd go to the mailbox and there would be a handful of checks waiting for me. It's hard to describe how addictive it was. The money wasn't that great at first, but I could see it increasing everyday... and that kept me going!

Another huge plus, was what it let me say in my ads...
Once I realized how important those daily checks were to me, I began to incorporate that benefit into my ads. That's when they REALLY started producing.
