7 Reasons Why The Internet Is The Best Place To Moonlight
Category: Net Business Start ups | Date: 2001-05-18 |
If you are considering starting a part-time business, the Internet is the ideal place for you build it. Here are seven reasons why its the place that so many others have decided to start a business online.
(1) You Dont Need A Rich Uncle!
Using the Internet to expand your existing business or to start a new business is very inexpensive compared to doing the same in a brick-and-mortar operation.
You dont need to lease expensive office space. I run my business from a card table in the family room of our home. On occasion, when I get tired of the family room, I will set up office in bed. Or when I go on vacation, I take my laptop with me and read email at night.
You dont even have to have your own proprietary product. You can join one of the many affiliate programs online and promote someone elses product. This will free you from having to spend money developing, producing and shipping products. The owner does those tasks. You simply do the promoting and collect checks for your sales.
When you go the affiliate route, your biggest expenditure is your computer and online access time. Using some of the tactics and strategies that I will give you later can minimize your advertising and promotion costs.
(2) You Can Run Your Business Using Email.
Every dollar that I have made since coming online has been via email. You can make thousands of dollars a month using email-marketing techniques.
Email is phenomenal. You can communicate anywhere in the world, with your prospects and customers, and pay no long distance telephone charges. You can send an email to 10 prospects for the same price it takes to email to 1,000 prospects.
You can use email to run your entire business. Heres a quick overview of this strategy. This can be done by placing small ads in targeted ezines and newsletters to promote your products and services, while at the same time providing an autoresponder or email address to get further information. You then simply follow up with the prospect using regular email. You might also consider using any one of the many smart autoresponders available, such as fastfacts.net, smartbotpro.net, or getresponse.com, just to name a few.
(3) You Can Make Money 24 Hours A Day.
This is great for you as a moonlighter. If you ran a business offline, someone would have to run the cash register for you during the day, and you could only be open for a few hours out of the day. As a moonlighter, you can be open as long as Amazon.com is open, 24 hours a day.
With an online business, your hours of operation are continuous. You dont have to close the shades at 5:00 p.m., while you are out to lunch, or while youre hanging out at your favorite vacation haven. You can literally run your business on autopilot, if you have it set up properly. You can be making money while youre at your brick-and-mortar job. An online business can be run from your kitchen table while wearing a sweat suit or clothed in your bathrobe.
(4) You Can Span The Globe From Your Desktop.
Once youre on the Net, you can virtually do business with anyone who has access to the Internet. It does not matter what country they live in. I have customers from all over the world. My newsletter has subscribers from over 30 different countries. When I was trying to moonlight offline, it never even occurred to me to try to go global. The cost was too prohibitive.
If you find that a lot of your traffic is coming from another country, consider having your website translated into that
language. Those who have made this conversion often experience a big increase in sales as a result.
The Internet is being used on a regular basis by millions worldwide and the numbers are increasing daily. Many of these surfers are looking for state-of-the-art products and services. They have money. Why not provide those products and services they are looking for?
(5) You Can Implement Changes Quickly.
If youve ever worked in mail order or some related business offline by producing your own catalog, you know how difficult it is to make changes once the catalog is printed. Changes are expensive and time consuming. You may even need to change something as simple as a phone or fax number. This causes major pain.
With a website, these changes are virtually painless. Even if you are not an HTML whiz kid, you can make these kind of changes in a matter of minutes. Then you upload the modified pages and youre back in business.
I do all of my website updates. Its the most economical way for me to go. It really depends upon what type of website you have. If all you want to do is upload files, you can learn everything you need to know by going to your local bookstore or to a website such as Amazon.com and order a HTML tutorial book. I used a book entitled How to Build a Website in a Weekend. It took me from start to finish in building a website using Microsoft FrontPage.
(6) You Can Experiment With New Ideas.
Since the Internet is a relatively new marketing medium, no one is really sure what will and will not sell online. We do know that there are marketers selling CDs, books, tapes, information products, steaks, power tools, investment advice, websites, software and more online, and theyre making huge profits.
Whos to say you cant sell hamsters online (someone may already be doing it)? When you use the Internet, you can try new ideas usually for little investment on your part.
If you try an idea and it doesnt work, you can either modify it, improve it or you may decide to drop it. At least you learned something. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. You could hit a winner!
My recommendation for moonlighters is to start off marketing someone elses product in order to gain practical experience marketing online. But if you have your own product, by all means market it.
(7)You Can Run Special Offers.
Lets assume that youve just received what you believe to be the next "hot" product to hit your market, and you want to make "special" offer to your existing customers. If you had to do this by phone, mail or fax, it would be both time consuming and expensive.
With the Internet, you simply place the "special" on one of your web pages first. Then you blast out an email with the click of a mouse, to all your 1,000 loyal customers, pointing them to your page. Of course, this web page has all the benefits spelled out, as well as how to order from your secure server online or by using your customer-friendly 800 number. In a matter of hours your merchant account provider could be wiring thousands of dollars into your bank account.
I use this tactic every week when I send out my newsletter. If I have a new program that Im promoting, it gets a special mention in my Publishers Comments column. As a result my affiliates sales skyrocket.
So, what are you waiting for? The coast is clear! Come on and join the 70,000 other people who are coming online everyday. Its a virtual stampede!
