All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go?

You've spent tireless weeks, maybe even months creating your web site, now what?
GET UP AND DO SOMETHING! You need to market the heck out of that thing if you want it to work. I'm not talking about the free link exchanges or emails you've sent to your friends and family. You've got to hustle! Don't rely on word of mouth alone.
Follow these tips, print it out if you need to and keep it as a guide. There will be a pop-quiz on this.
· Do you have a decent domain name? Make sure you really research this thoroughly. Make sure the words running together don't spell something obscene or silly (although in some cases, this may work in your favor). My personal favorite, a company that was called Via Grafix. I think you can figure that one out!
· META tags are not magic, be more creative. Use misspellings of words that are commonly misspelled. Make sure your tags are optimized for search engines to spider. Visit www.netmechanic.com for tips.
· Old fashioned advertising. You still listen to the radio, watch TV, glance at the newspaper when you are housebreaking your puppy, right? If we are using the Internet to promote traditional "brick and mortar" businesses, shouldn't we use traditional advertising to promote today's "click & mortar" businesses?
· Offer a free gift. This works like a charm, who doesn't like to get something for free? There are tons of websites out there that promote "freebies" They can send you thousands of visitors! Your offer can be as simple as a free e-book or as extravagant as a T-shirt. You can look at www.freebie411.com as an example of one of these sites.
· Cost per lead advertising. There is a way to have a guaranteed 100% return on your investment. Programs such as Commission Junction have a network of web site owners that receive a bounty for sending visitors to you. In most cases the web site owner receives money only when they complete some sort of registration form or request information. The clicks and impressions are free!
One last note, make sure your site loads quickly. People want information and that want it quick. If they need to download a plug-in for your cursor, your animated "Flash" logo or something else unimportant they will leave faster than you can say, "click here".
Now go market the heck out of it, I hope to find your site soon!
