It Can Be DEADLY For E-Biz Beginners To Miss This Step
Category: Net Business Start ups | Date: 2001-09-04 |
Many beginners are so raring to start marketing their new e-biz, they forget about one of the most important steps in starting anything on-line..... "yes" it's learning how to write your own newsletter. The Newsletter is your link to the internet's own version of the Holy Grail.... THE ALMIGHTY LIST. So, your JOB as a beginner on the internet is NOT to sell people, but rather to build relationships with people. Those relationships can catapult a new business into the big leagues. Lists are Golden!
Where does the Newsletter usually rank amongst "things to do"? Well, more often than not it's near the bottom of that list, when it should in fact be at the top! I view the making of a Newsletter as the second most important step, right after buying a reputable marketing course.
Why is writing a Newsletter SO important to the future of your new e-biz? Well, you're reading this aren't you? And that tells me, that you were in search of valuable information. Sure you want to get into creating your site, submitting to engines, buying keywords, joining affiliate programs and all the rest..... but once that visitor has seen your site, how will you ever find them again? How do you keep in touch with them? Tell them of your news, and updates? Where do you find them after they've moved on? Without a Newsletter to capture their address, once they have left your site, you might as well say goodbye to that visitor forever.
Don't forget.... your site may hold their attention for a few minutes, but there is an entire other world out there for them to explore and get lost in. In a matter of minutes, your site, it's content and important information, all that it has to offer, will soon be forgotten and replaced with their next click!
In order to keep your site's information fresh in the minds of your visitors, you need to pop up in their inbox every now and then and say "hey, remember me?" And if your Newsletter's content is good reading, and important information that they find valuable, you bet they'll be returning to your site. Over and over again... and they will probably even bring a friend or too!
By capturing your visitors' email addresses, you now have the ability to grow a strong relationship, so don't blow it! Respect the fact that they have lent you their address. Provide valuable information to them, and for heaven's sake, don't bombard them with some new 'opportunity' every day. Visitor addresses are getting extremely difficult to catch these days, so don't abuse them. Respect your 'list' of subscribers, because these days that list is worth it's weight in GOLD!
You must reward your visitor for lending you their email address.... period! Whatever you do, don't go giving away some old news 'free e-book' as their bonus. Take some time to find a good resource that not everyone on the web has alreadty read or heard of a b'zillion times. Their address is valuable, so if you want them to offer it to you, you need to make it worth their while! I have an excellent 'new' e-book bonus on my site that anyone can receive and then pass on to their visitors, just see my site for details.
What to write..... that depends on your site and the information you feel would be important to your readers.
Give a short update on things you have learned over the week
Offer some TIPS that are valuable
Outline a new product that 'you use' that they may find beneficial
Ask your readers what they want to learn about, then research it and pass on your answers
Post a survey to get more information from your readers
Any new information that will save them time, money or both
Your Newsletter is an amazing opportunity to inform people of what you know. As long as you are informing your readers with up-to-date information, they will stay, and read. Give them time to trust you and learn from you before you begin throwing the sales pitches at them. They're there to learn from you, to get insights, tips and product up-dates. Now, if your newsletter starts looking like a classified ad site, then don't be shocked when your inbox is bombarded with 'UNSUBSCRIBE' messages. After all, they aren't there to buy in the first place. When you stop providing valuable information, they will leave. Wouldn't you?
Don't set out to be just another beginner marketer.... we already have hundreds of thousands of them! Be a SMART Beginner.
