Business As Usual?
Category: Networking(MLM) | Date: 2002-04-29 |
Since the terrorist attack on New York City and Washington, D.C., there has already been a lot of talk about whether we should get back to business as usual. As I write this, it has only been 4 days since these events. Some internet marketers are already proclaiming "business as usual" in a manner that is becoming almost SPAM-like. In my opinion, the decision of when to get back to business must be left up to each business owner. There is no real right or wrong answer to this issue.
The proponents of "business as usual" will tell you that these terrorist attacks were aimed at all business owners. Therefore, if we stop doing business, we somehow make their attack a success. I believe that the attack on commerce was only part of the message these cowards were trying to send. Rather, I feel that this was an attack on a way of life.
I feel that it is inevitable that soon, we must all get back to business as usual. However, I feel that this decision is extremely personal. We all need time to recover. We need time to deal with the fear, the disbelief, the grief and the insecure feeling that this has spurred in us. We all feel a sense of being violated. Some of us have even lost friends and family members. We all need time to deal with these feelings in our own way.
Owners of "traditional" businesses who provide goods and services to the masses MUST try to get back to business as usual. If they don't, where will we be able to buy the necessities of life? We all need food, clothing, shelter, etc.
As Network Marketing business owners, we are in a peculiar position. Do we continue to promote our "opportunity"? Do we shift our focus to retail? Again, these are decisions that we must make for ourselves.
As a fellow Network and Internet Marketing business owner, I appeal to you now. Whether you decide to proceed with "business as usual" or take some time to put things back in perspective, please be sensitive to the feelings of others. Please don't try to impose your opinions and philosophies on others. You might find that the relationships of mutual respect that you build now will pay immense dividends in the end.
