Lets get back to BASICS.

Category: Networking(MLM) Date: 2001-10-08
First, lets see exactly what MLM means. The letters stand for Multi-Level Marketing. Put another way, Network Marketing, which is nothing more than word-of-mouth marketing.

That is, you tell your friends and family about your product and they in turn pass it along to their friends and relatives, etc.,etc. Before you even know what has happened, hundreds, or even thousands of people know about your product or business.

How do you select an MLM business? I use some basic guidelines.

1. How long has the company been around. Most MLM's FAIL WITHIN THE FIRST 2 YEARS.

2. What kind of pay plan do they use. How many promotions must I go through to attain the TOP POSITION, and how DIFFICULT are those promotions to attain. The AVERAGE representative will recruit 2-3 PERSONS into their business. How many do I need to be successful?

3. What is the FINANCIAL STATUS of the company? Are they overloaded with debt. Can they meet the pay plan criteria. How would they function if everyone reached the top position? Could they still survive or is the pay plan flawed?

4. Can I afford this opportunity? Can I afford NOT to participate in this opportunity? Will there be another as good as this one?

Your immediate family, friends, and acquaintances are your "WARM MARKET". This is the strength of your business. Who better to talk to then people who have a trust in you. The very first thing you should do after joining an MLM business is to sit down with your personal address book and contact EVERYONE you know without trying to evaluate them in terms of how you think they will react. In other words, DON'T PRE-JUDGE ANYONE. Don't sort your list.

The best approach is always the SIMPLEST. You might say "Hi Chuck, I just started in this awesome home business and would really like to have you on my team. Would you take a look?" If Chuck says "yes", provide him with the means to see your opportunity, if he says "no", get him to use your products as a CUSTOMER. After all, you are providing a product you believe in , right?

Everyone tells you to "stay excited" about your opportunity. I want you to go one step further. Be TRULY EXCITED, not for show, but for real. Not easy you say, of course its not, the ups and downs of life itself affect the way we act and feel on a daily basis. What I am saying is when your FEELING DOWN, talk to your "UPLINE" team members, get that pumped feeling again. Then you can go out and truly convey that excitement. I cannot say enough about the importance of being EXCITED and expressing that excitement WHENEVER you are talking about your opportunity.

Talk to your prospect about the overall picture of your business. DON'T TRY TO DESCRIBE THE FULL OPPORTUNITY. That is what the materials provided by your company are for. Keep your personal presentation very SIMPLE. And DO NOT use your commission checks or income statements as inducements to join your business. You don't want to be accused of "luring" someone in because of an"implied" guarantee of wealth, or a "perception" that you tried to do just that. In MLM income is directly related to individual effort. In the beginning, you must work to get where you want to be. Make sure your prospect is fully aware of what is expected of him/her.

Utilize all the tools provided by your business. Get your prospect in touch with your UPLINE MENTORS for reinforcement. When a prospect actually can see there are more people involved than just you ( even if he has been told) the impact is much stronger. Take your prospect to opportunity meetings if they are available. The power of the group is always going to be stronger then one alone.

Set your goals. How many people do you want in your personal downline. What do you have to do to get that number. How many people will you need to talk to every day, week, month, to reach your goal. Set that goal and don't sway from it. Cast it in "stone".

Thats MLM in a "nutshell". There is only one more thing I cannot impress on you enough, and that is .... DON'T QUIT .... There are basically 3 reasons for failure in MLM. Listening to the wrong people ( those that have no clue what they are talking about), not listening to the right people ( those that are successful in this business), and last but not least QUITTING. Don't do it. Persevere. Keep working. YOU WILL GET THERE!
