Rubbing Elbows!
Category: Networking(MLM) | Date: 2001-12-04 |
It is interesting to learn just how many business owners today do not take advantage of the most effective and inexpensive advertising in the world! We often get so tied up in becoming the perfect sales person, we forget the basics. We have become a society that has no time for "rubbing elbows" in a way that TELLS, NOT SELLS!
Whether you own a traditional on-location business or promote your products and services strictly on-line, you should be creating support through "networking". The definition of "network" is: to socialize for professional gain; create a system of connections.
First, learn how to "tell, not sell" what you offer. That means you must get out of your store, office or web site from time to time and CIRCULATE!
Explore the outside world looking for ways to tell people about your business. Think beyond the marketing you are doing now...
1. Your Community! Join local business groups and organizations. By becoming active in your community you open doors to your business. Even if your promotions are strictly on-line, you will meet many other business owners that might need what you offer. On-line you can join newsgroups where members discuss problems that you have solutions for.
2. Volunteer! Do something good for others, and it will come back to you tenfold! Become involved in a fundraising event or start one. Find out what schools are doing and get involved! Getting acquainted will gently lead into introducing your business.
3. Share! Find other businesses and trade events such as flyers, brochures, and cards. Have a drawing and ask others to provide a location for your entry box. Do the same for them.
4. ON-Line! Offer to trade links with compatible businesses. This creates additional exposure for all involved! Find a local business that is compatible and offer to give them some exposure on your site in exchange for them doing the same for you in their store or office.
5. Speak Up! Offer to speak at various events that might benefit from what you offer. Make this an informative talk about related subjects. You will instantly gain credibility as a person who is willing to give before he gets! Always remember, "tell not sell".
6. Articles! Create that article you are hearing so much about these days. Both on-location and on-line businesses benefit immensely from short (300-500 words) informational articles. Relate it to your business at the end and you've just created a most dynamic tool for exposing your business.
You've got to get out and mingle to benefit from the most effective and inexpensive promotional tool available. Constantly be on the lookout for ways to create a system of connections! Start hobnobbing!
