How are Your Publishing Skills?
Category: Newsletters/Newsgroups | Date: 2002-01-09 |
The most important reason that people use the Internet: INFORMATION!!! Either sending it, or receiving it!!! Isn't that why you are reading this right now? You are looking for information that will assist you in some area of your interests or business.
A successful Newsletter is one that provides the information it's subscribers are reading it for. It could be one of many informative subjects: Business, Travel, Sports, Women's Issues. The possiblities are endless. Sounds like a pretty simple formula, right?? Just know what they want, and give it to them! Simple goal - painstaking process!!! Definitely a skill that takes some time to develop!!!
No doubt about it, publishing a newsletter is critical to the success of any online venture, no matter what the subject. But just the fact that you are making one available is hardly success-in-the-bag for you. Newsletters are a dime a dozen, at best! You must make sure that YOURS is one that REALLY gets read!! I personally recieve an average of 25-30 newsletters per DAY. Some I NEVER read, some I try when I have time, and some I NEVER MISS!!! You want yours in that third category! So what's the key?
First of all, you must understand what kind of work is involved in putting out a quality newsletter. Most newsletters are not a success overnight. It takes some people years to build a marketable base of subscribers. ( And some NOT so long!) Don't expect your newsletter to produce an income for quite a while. You are not just building a subscriber base, you are building relationships. Build trust and loyalty, and you will build income.
The two most important things that will keep your readers watching for your newsletter:
1. Content
You MUST provide content with substance. Informative articles, whether written by you or someone else, must make the reader richer in some way after they are finished reading. You can NOT enter lightly into this! Throwing a bunch of ads together and tossing it into cyberspace will accomplish NOTHING except to establish your reputation as an amateur. That is, IF you wind up with any subscribers.
2. Presentation.
You can have great content, and never reach your readers because they cannot follow your presentation. There are too many newsletters available out there to expect any reader to spend much time figuring out what you have to offer, and where it is in your newsletter. I see way too many newsletters with a contents list a mile long. And ads inbetween, around, under and over every segment. Keep it simple, and consistent. A short newsletter with a definitive format: one or two segments and a classified ad section that the reader can scan easily is your best bet.
These are just the very basic aspects of publishing a successful newsletter. If you would like to get to more specifics of ezine publishing, please take some time to check out "Publishing An Ezine: The Easy Guide." It will take you step-by-step through the process, from blank page to making money. And it is VERY reasonably priced!!! You can take a look at:
