The Effect Of Peace & Quiet On Your Creativity
Category: Newsletters/Newsgroups | Date: 2001-04-02 |
Are you a writer? Do you aspire to write? Are you writing effectively?
For the last week I have been travelling through the Australian Outback. A couple of days ago I sat on a hill only 5 klm from Broken Hill (Outback New South Wales) and looked out over the horizon. All that was audible was the wind (and of course a few flies). There was nobody around. The peace, quiet & solitude was amazing. The tranquility was breathtaking.
If you are looking to create congenial surroundings for optimal writing then that is the point of this article. It is beyond its scope to cover writing styles, article components or writing for your particular market nichй.
I'm going to assume you have a topic to write about and have a basic idea of what you would like to cover in your article. Now optimising your situation to put the article together is the crux of it we're going to cover now.
When I write my articles to publish here in "AAvenues 2 Your Success" I need to find a place very quiet, without distraction to put all my thoughts down on paper. I commenced my website and ezine when I was living in Mьnster, Germany. Flowing through the city was the "Dortmund Ems Kanal" (canal) which was a lovely place to ride a push bike along, go for a walk and to put an article together in a very relaxing fashion.
My first 30 odd articles published in "AAvenues" were written on the side of this canal. Occasionally a freight barge would sail past on its way to either Holland or in the other direction to the "Ruhrgebiet" (Dortmund, Dьsseldorf etc.). It was very relaxing as there was no day to day traffic. Most people were at work somewhere else. There was I working on the side of a beautiful European canal putting my best thoughts forward in what were excellent conditions really - in my own office.
It is so important that your conditions for writing are optimised. It has to be an environment where you feel comfortable and is 100% non-threatening to you. For example if you aren't a fan of the great outdoors or your local library then I wouldn't suggest it as a great idea for you. But if you are then try them.
However it goes without say that to create your best work you will need a continuous thought which can be put onto paper. If you are writing in an environment with distractions then your authored work may become disjointed and you may not get your message across with the intentions you may have desired. For all intents and purposes this renders all that you've done useless as you only want to present work that is of your highest quality. If you publish sub-standard work then your readers will answer in kind by becoming former readers. You can't afford that.
You may not be in a position where I am right now where you can drive for just 5 minutes and then be in the peaceful outback where you couldn't be distracted even if you wanted to be but you should be aware of where you can perform to your optimum.
Try locking yourself away for a couple of hours, take a walk down to your local park, lake or library. Make your optimum working conditions and your surroundings as identical as possible to give yourself the edge you deserve.
Think Successfully.
