Whats The Best Day Upon Which To Mail Your Newsletter?
Category: Newsletters/Newsgroups | Date: 2001-09-17 |
The short answer is Tuesday or Wednesday. Why?
For most, the work week begins on Monday, and not everybody is ready for it. Many really struggle in simply getting to work. Some are "hung over" from a weekend of doing fun things. But all are likely to being facing unfinished work from last week. Grim stuff.
The work week ends on Friday. Many minds are filled with plans for the weekend. Theres a rush from the moment of arrival to get through the days chores, to leave nothing to next week. Theres often the hope of getting away a tad early, thus into the weekend sooner.
A business call on either Monday or Friday is likely to be a waste of time. By Tuesday, most are into the swing of the work week. Wednesday and Thursday flow right along. But a call on Thursday, may not bring a response on the following hectic Friday.
The above holds true for mailing a newsletter. When I first started "STAT News," I mailed on the 1st and 15th of each month. The above pattern became clearly defined very early on.
Since many subscribe with a business email address, mailing on weekends means the newsletter hits in the crunch of Monday. And even those who receive it at home are more willing to read it on Tuesday through Thursday evenings.
I favor Tuesday. If reading is put off to the next day, Wednesday is good. If its put off to Thursday, the risk of the dreaded Delete key emerges. A newsletter that arrives on Monday or Friday has got to be one eagerly awaited if this awful fate is to be avoided. Awful for you, the publisher, that is.
