Take Credit Cards On The Cheap
Category: Online Payments | Date: 2002-02-20 |
For those who need to take credit cards, but can not afford a merchant account, I have been recommending ClickBank. While costs are less with PayPal, their sign up procedure for a customer new to their service is tedious and very demanding. Not at all user friendly. I would expect some prospective customers to give up on it.
However, I learned recently that PayPal offers two benefits I was not aware of. First, they have a fraud protection plan in place at no additional charge. How good it is, I can't say. But it is certainly better than nothing. Many services charge heavily for this.
What may matter most to you is that they are moving out aggressively in the international market. You can now take orders from nearly 50 countries outside the US, and the number is expected to continue to increase. For further information, see the following article by Dr. Ralph Wilson at http://www.wilsonweb.com/reviews/paypal.htm
When I used PayPal a second time recently, it was indeed a snap. Upon entry of my email address and password, related address and credit card information was immediately available, so it did not have to be reentered. This is certainly a plus.
If you would like at least a measure of fraud protection, and an easy way for many outside the US to purchase from you, it may be wise to consider PayPal. My only reservation is the original sign up procedure. If your customers will deal with this, the rest is a snap.
