Digging Out Of The Internet Rut!

It's no surprise! People resist change. Period. Makes no difference if it is change for the better, they still resist it. They can be getting a better job, house, car, spouse or any number of differnet new and better things. People resist changes !
Here's the reason. Change brings about stress. People don't like stress. They strive everyday, every week, every month to avoid stress by keeping their personal and business lives in balance. Change upsets the balance. They resist anything that disturbs the balance.
Now on a rational level it is easy to see that people want a better way of life with a new whatever, but subconsciously they resist because they know it will disturb the balance of things in their lives and cause them stress.
Okay, now that we have that basic information stored away, let's suggest some changes for you to make to the way you are promoting your business on the internet.
First, I'll just bet that most of you are doing the same thing that everyone else seems to be doing. You have joined a bunch of mailing lists, mostly free ones, and you are sending out the old e-mail everyday or as often as possible.
Some of you may be utilizing banner programs.
Some of you may be linking to other sites.
Some of you may be trading out ads.
Some of you may have even tried the old "million-name-list" idea.
Is it working? Are you getting the traffic that you wanted? Are the orders pouring in so fast you can hardly handle them? Well, if so, congratulations!
Most of us will have to say that business is on the slow side this week.
Here are a couple of suggestions for making some changes to your way of doing business.
Remember, most of you will resist change even though you may recognize the benefit in it.
***Get an objective opinion on your site, your promotion efforts from someone who is knowledgable but not involved with your site or it's promotion efforts. There are probably many webmasters out there who would be flattered to asked for their opinion.
***Look at your competitors. What are they doing that seems to work so well? Whatever it is, they probably don't have a patent or copyright on it. Could you use it to your benefit? Can you modify it to complement your program ?
***Be creative. Come up with new, innovative ideas for promotion. Don't wait for someone to hand them to you. In teaching creative thinking in school, children can by given a paper clip and told that this thing could be used to hold papers together. They don't name it a "paperclip".
Well, That opens the door to a million other possibilities. It could also be used to clean your finger nails, make a metal sculpture, as a tiny catpult for launching paperwads or kernels of corn. It could be used as many things. Most people just call it a paperclip and therby limit it's use.
***Be pro-active in your marketing efforts. Don't wait for the customer to discover your site. Go out there and drag them in off the street !
***Always be on the lookout for new and creative marketing and promotional solutions on the internet. Spend some time each day just trying to discover new exciting ways to promote.
Finally, remember that you are likely to resist change even if you see it as beneficial, good and worthwhile.
