Here's an article that will show you how to use announcement services to promote and market your website
There are millions and millions of websites and webpages available on the Internet and more are being added every minute! People can find you through Search Engines, through links on other sites, through word of mouth recommendations, through banners or classified ads. Some of these things are free, some cost money. A little known method of getting the word about your website out is through Announcement Services.
An often overlooked method of building your visibility is by using Internet Announcement Services. Some of these services actually review sites, but many of them don't ... they just let people know that a new or updated site exists.
Utilizing the Search Engines and establishing an ongoing campaign to exchange links are amongst your best bets for a steady flow of traffic, but they aren't the only ones ... from time to time you can get a additional burst of traffic coming in by getting listed with the Announcement Services. Depending on what Announcement Services you get listed with, this could result in hundreds or even thousands of new visitors over a short time.
Before you utilize any of the Announcement Services make sure your site is optimized. There is no point in getting a pile of new visitors if you aren't prepared to lead them to a purchase or get them to sign up to your opt-in list. Make sure your site leads your visitors where you want them to go!
Once your site is ready, utilize your "killer copywriting" skills to write up several descriptions for your site. You'll want to develop several short descriptions that aren't longer than one or two lines ... and at least one paragraph-long description.
Absolutely do NOT use hype. Headlines such as "Make $100K in a day" will simply be ignored ... sell the benefits of visiting your site by using all the good copywriting skills you learned in the IMC Private Members Site. The idea is to get qualified visitors coming to see what your site has to offer.
Open up your WordPad or TextPad program and list the following information:
your name and address
your email address
the URL for the site you are promoting
your descriptions
Then do a double check before you start ... make sure your descriptions are clear and easy to read. Check the spelling and grammar, you don't want to look unprofessional and embarrass yourself in front of tens of thousands of people.
Net Announce and Net Happenings are the two largest announcement services and will get you the most traffic. List with them first and put them into your schedule three to six months from now. When the time comes you can re-post your website announcing any changes and new items ... generating even more traffic.
Put all the other services on your "to do" list over the next month or so for when you have a minute or two in your promotions time table ... there are no guarantees here, but getting a listing on Netscape's What's New page could lead to some significant traffic increases for a day or so.
Net Announce
Net Announce goes out to its subscribers twice a week. Subscribers get a summary page listing all the announcements by subject. To read the actual announcement they click on a link and are taken to the announcement, or article ... so if you have the time it is worth writing an article about your site. But remember the idea is to get people to go to your site, not to sell them in the article! However ... if you read the fine print you will find out that all articles become the property of Net Announce, so if you have copyrighted material you want to protect, don't submit it! To read all the rules and get information about listing your site at Net Announce go to http://www.erspros.com/net-announce/narules.html
Net Happenings
Net Happenings is run by Gleason Sackman. Each day he goes through an email box full of submissions and picks the most interesting sites (40 - 60 per announcement) to send to his list. He has a large list ... so following his rules are worth the effort. One of the rules is that you can't submit on weekends (from 3PM Friday to 8AM Monday morning) ... your submission will just be sent to unread heaven ... so make sure you read all the fine print before you make a submission. It would be a great idea to subscribe to the list to see what other people are doing. To subscribe to Net Happenings Click Here.
Hersh Web Site Observer- A great website that spotlights websites that are newsworthy on the Internet... get listed here!
Netscape What's New When you get there, click on "Send us your favorite new web sites" and let them know you exist. If they choose to feature your site your listing could bring in a very nice amount of traffic.

Getting really great exposure for your site, your products and services is not the result of doing one thing ... it is a result of taking daily, weekly and monthly action steps from a list of marketing and promotion to do's ... over time, they all add up. So add the Announcement Services to your marketing and promotions arsenal and just keep chipping away!
