Review: Free For All Links Pages
Category: Online Promotion | Date: 2003-11-12 |
Marketing on the Internet can be a fun and rewarding business venture if done properly. While there are some general techniques and methods, there will always be somethings that will not work. For example, FFA pages aka. Free For All link(s) pages.
If you have seen those advertisements that say something like, Post your link to 25,000 websites, dont fall for it.
While it may seem to be a good way to get some free advertising. Its also a way to clog your inbox full of unwanted mail. Unwanted mail, isnt unwanted mail called spam? Well, yes, most of the time. But in this case, no. You see, when you goto an FFA site to post a link, you give them permission to send you a con-firmation email to let you know when your email link is posted. In this confirmation e-mail is 99.9 times out of 100 is an ad or a sles message of some sort.
Now, this is not necessarily bad thing especially if the ad is something that will really help, I have seen a few helpful ones. But, unless what you want is to have a inbox full of ads and sales messages dont post to the FFA sites.
But, wont I get more pages linking to my site which will in turn boost my websites popularity and ranking with the search engines that consider link popularity in ranking a website?
Well, yes you will get a lot links back to your site, temporarily, but, there are a few reasons that this is not a good tactic to employ.
1. The links will not come from a page with content that is relevant to your site, one of the factors that the search engines look for when considering link popularity is whether the site that has a link to your site has content that is related.
2. There are so many people using these submission services that your link will be dropped in a short amount of time. Therefore, chances are that the search engines will never get to find the links you posted on the FFAs.
3. Most people are posting ads to these sites. And ... Most of those that are posting are using either online submission software or another program.
So, how do you use linking strategies?
Your linking strategies are better of done by looking for sites with similar content and e-mailing the webmaster to see if you can trade links with them. Most of the time if your site has good content that the other site owner feels will benifit thier viewers the will be more than happy to trade links with you.
Its as simple as that. Just be nice. If you dont get a reply just move on. There are alot of web sites that will trade and some that wont.
It will take more time but it will pay off in the long run.
