Sam, My Border Collies Internet Marketing Advice! No 22
Category: Online Promotion | Date: 2001-10-03 |
Sam (that's my 12 year old Border Collie) and I were walking again through the Bush (Australian countryside). Sam as usual was ranging out from me checking for the Eucalyptus trees that needed his marketing skills.
When we reached our usual rock beside the fallen log, Sam came racing up, his tail wagging excitedly and he said, "Guess What?"
Ok Sam, I'll bite. What? "I was just having a yarn to that Old Kangaroo" said Sam. Well what did he have to say Sam? (Sometimes Sam needs a bit of prompting).
"You know Trudi (our German Shepherd that has a penchant for writing Ad copy) wrote some Ad copy for that Old Kangaroo?" Yes Sam, I was there, remember?
"Oh that's right you were weren't you!" replied Sam.
Sam! What is it you want to tell me?
"Old man Kangaroo has so much time available since Trudi began writing his Ads for him that he has been able to increase his promoting activities to such an extent that his business is now booming. In fact he still has time left over to take the occasional day off and just feed off his new found profitability."
That's great Sam! I knew Trudi would boost Old Man Kangaroo's business but I didn't realise he'd get all those extra benefits just from having Trudi write the copy for his Ads. "Yes," said Sam, I don't think Old Man Kangaroo realised it either.
But that's not all Gordon, Trudi is now so stoked with the way she has been able to help out Old Man Kangaroo that she has decided to augment her meagre income by writing copy for other marketers. Already she has bookings from Ossie the Emu, Platty the Platypus and a few others.
Trudi did this all off her own bat without any prompting from me either. I'm so pleased with her and the way she absorbed the initial training I gave her. It won't be long and she'll be the master marketer around here."
What kind of copy writing is Trudi going to do Sam? "Trudi reckons she's going to cover all the different types of copy writing that apply to marketing. She's getting a lot of requests for Autoresponder letters."
Boy! That's heavy stuff to get into. Do you realise just how much work has to go into writing a set of letters for an autoresponder Sam?
"I do now, said Sam, I was watching Trudi just the other day as she was scribbling away and every now and then she'd start shaking her left paw (Trudi is left handed). I asked her what was wrong and all she said was 'Oh it's nothing, it just gets a bit numb after a while'. I could see she was in a fair bit of pain from doing so much writing but it didn't deter her, she just paused to shake her paw for a moment and then she was straight back into it.
I really like the way she ties every paragraph of her letters into leading her reader towards a thorough understanding of the benefits of the product she's writing about and the way she has calls to action interspersed throughout her letters. According to Old Man Kangaroo, the letters that she wrote for his autoresponder are producing lots of new business for him"
Well Sam I'm real glad she has found her niche in life at such a young age. But we'll have to make sure that we give her all the support she needs to continue writing Advertising copy for her new found clients.
"Of course," said Sam, "that goes without saying, I've already set up new folders for her so that all she has to do is get cracking with writing the copy."
That's good of you Sam, I'm sure she will appreciate your support.
I think Trudi will help a lot of our fellow marketers Sam, we lose so many, just because they are not cut out to write their own advertising material. In a way I blame a lot of the owners of affiliate programs for producing look-alike Ads and giving them to their new affiliates.
They in turn either use the Ads as is or try and re-write them. Either way the original Ads tend to quickly stop working or if the new marketers attempt to re-write them the Ads fail them simply because they were not designed to slavishly follow the time honoured principle of AIDA.
Anyway we'd better get you back home for a bit of lunch.
"Thought you'd never ask." retorted Sam. Sam always has to have the last word
