Using Signature Files
Category: Online Promotion | Date: 2001-04-02 |
Signature files, also known as sigs, and signatures are used to promote an ezine, product or service that you offer. Sig files should be attached to each piece of outgoing email. Most email clients can be configured to add the sig automatically. Check the help section of your email to find out how to add sig files.
Here are two article by Brian Alt that talk about sigs.
http://www.Ezine-Tips.com/articles/promotion/20000512.shtml
http://www.Ezine-Tips.com/articles/promotion/20000515.shtml
Both of these articles talk about ezine sig files but the tips and examples can be applied to products and services that you offer as well.
You should only have 1 sig file per product, service or ezine. In other words do not put two products that you sell in one sig file. So if you publish one ezine, sell three products and offer two services then you should have 6 sigs.
You can use a decorative lines to set off your sig files something like the following.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
//////////////////////
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
Or if you want something that is a little fancier then the above then you could use something like the following.
¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Use the border lines at the top then write your sig and then put a border line at the bottom. The purpose of the lines is to set off your sig to make it more noticeable.
Some tips:
~ If you offer 3 free gifts for new subscribers to your ezine then mention this in your sig.
~ Be sure to provide a clickable link the new subscriber can use to subscribe to your ezine.
Below are just some examples. They will need to have your information inserted for your particular ezine subscribe directions.
yourezine-subscribe@yourlistserver.com
If you want an AOL link then it needs to be in HTML AOL" Target="_BLANK">yourezine-subscribe@yourlistserver.com">AOL click here or whatever you want to put
If your ezine subscription direction includes an email subject line you can provide a clickable link that will automatically insert the subject line.
yourezine@yourdomain.com?subject=subscribe.
For AOL the link would look like this:
yourezine@yourdomain.com?subject=subscribe"> Subscribe to my ezine
~ Mention the name of your ezine in your sig
~ Make sure url's are clickable. To do that put http:// not just the www.yoursite.com.
Sig files can be used to your advantage so start using them today.
