Are You Soaring with the Eagles or Pecking with the Chickens?

Choose your direction: Are you looking up every day--or down?
And make no mistake. It matters not whether you are facing someone, if you are alone in your little office, or if you are talking on the telephone to a prospect. If you are looking up or down (in a literal or non-literal sense), it will show in your business. If you are in sales (and who isnt?), does your body project your inner competence and instill confidence in other people?
Or do you look at the ground as you walk around, stoop-shouldered, mealy-mouthed, limp-wristed, hesitant and haphazard?
Alone, do you quiver and quake at the thought of approaching a prospect? Do you dread making that call? Do you tell yourself youre making progress, when youre only rearranging the things on your desk?
When you finally force yourself to dial the telephone, do you stumble over your words and experience an ordeal with the vague thought that this person just might buy what you are trying to sell?
If you are guilty of any of these postures, straighten up, keep your eyes forward, your shoulders back, your voice strong and unwavering, your handshake firm, your direction positive and targeted.
Straighten your desk before you close up for the day, and then youll have no other choice than to make progress when you start again the next morning.
Remind yourself that you are doing your prospects a favor by offering them the opportunity to take advantage of something fantastic, something thats going to change their lives for the better (of course, you first have to believe that, or they never will), and that they will thank you over and over again for sharing it with them.
Know where youre going with the conversation before the person answers. Then put a BIG smile on your face and let it show through as soon as you begin speaking. Of course, in order to project a firm direction, you first have to have one! And if you dont, get one! This can be done only by first deciding where you want to go and then setting your goals to get there.
Most people spend more time planning their vacations than they do planning their lives! (Sad, but true!)
Change your mindset, and you will change your life and start soaring above obstacles instead of trying to peck through them!
