Beware of Net Businesses Deceivers!

Category: Personal Development For Marketeers Date: 2002-07-15
Some time back I started my own Net business. My belief was firm that if I tried hard enough I will succeed in my endeavors. Believing that people are good, that businesses are honest, that on the Net it was the same as in the real world.

What An Illusion!

"Oh, what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive!" -Sir Walter Scott,Marmion

My belief totally changed since I opened my Net business. Why, you'll ask. Well, haven't you got a charge back lately? I have, actually I got a few.

From people that used our service, receiving what they paid for. And with the service delivered we are loosing money. Not the charge back of the bank, because we refund customers at once, without getting the fine.

People do not read what they are buying. They do not bother to read the FAQ, even if you ask them to do so. They buy what they believe, not what it is in reality!

We deliver guaranteed web site traffic. We explain exactly how, what, and when we deliver. People do belive in MIRALES though... We are not in the guaranteed sales business. Nor in the guaranteed sign-up's business. Not yet, at least.

As a perfect example that happened lately I can tell you the story. A customer purchased 10,000 guaranteed visitors. Some days after the delivery was completed the customer wrote us that he was very unsatisfied with the service, and would like complete refund for his purchase.

I wrote back, asking why he was unsatisfied, and if so, why didn't he complain while it was happening during the delivery of traffic.

He replied that our traffic did not seem real, as he had not even one sale out of 25,000 that we delivered. Note: he purchased 10,000 only! We deliver usually far more than a customer pays for.

We wrote back that we did deliver what he paid for. That we do not guarantee any sales, or sign up's. Mr.X replied that in 2 months time, and out of 20,000 visitors he is having at least 100 sales. Our traffic might be fake, as he was expecting more from our traffic.

Again, we explained that no one of the services providing guaranteed traffic does guarantee the results of the advertising campaign.

Logically one can sell any kind of junk, and it is up to him/her and the customers that are buying, or not, to sell anything to them.

The reply was sending the customer URL links of the web sites that deliver the traffic to our advertisers. Explaining that we use only genuine traffic, and not some kind of fake traffic producing software.

We haven't heard from him anymore, however we know what he'll do. He will most probably declare to his credit card that he never made any purchase with us, and wants his money back, a refund.

Since the credit cards care only for the customers, and not for us merchants, we have a few choices only.

Choice number one:
Not accepting credit card payments any longer.

Choice number two:
Keep accepting credit cards, and bare with the consequences.

Choosing for number one you are diminishing your income greatly. On the other side you do not risk any unfair charge back's. Choosing for number two option -- you never know how much you'll loose a month.

There you are, delivering what customers are paying for, and paying the web masters of the sites that display their advertising. Big loss you can call it, and it happens more and more.

Sometimes I wonder, why do people do such things? Will they feel better about themselves afterwards? I doubt it. If they are doing any kind of business on the Net, I wish them the same what they do to other merchants!

Very soon there will be a solution for merchants online. There will be a data base with the names of such "terrific" customers. Before you accept a credit card payment you could go there and check if the one who purchases from you is in the data base. You'll be better off than now.

I wish it was there already.
