Commitment VS Promise

What is most common?
"A Broken Promise"
OR
"A Broken Commitment"?
Maybe the first thing that came into your mind is politics. Maybe its some oil spill disaster that doesnt get cleaned up by the guilty party as promised or maybe a business colleague promised you a deadline and failed to deliver. Your spouse may not have taken the kids to the park or the dog for a walk as promised. Perhaps a product you purchased guaranteed you the world but delivered only their promises in part.
Every election year during the campaign and the lead up we get a whole group of policies from both parties. As always, they promise the earth in order to get elected (iuts all happening right now on a National level). Invariably one gets enough support to get the go ahead to carry out its promises. We all know how many promises make it to fruition. Granted, some do but a promise is a guarantee of someones word that an act will be successfully undertaken. These are all classic examples of broken promises. We have all (unfortunately) had varying degrees of exposure to broken promises. A promise is someones word that a task will be undertaken. It is a very strong term that says a lot about the person making the pledge. However, promises, at the end of the day are mere words. People use the word promise far too liberally these days. Generally buying time when in a bind endeavoring to get off the hook.
Alternatively, there are those of us who make promises with the right intentions and reason but either get sidetracked or "over promise" ourselves due to time constraints and such words of honor can underpin our standing.
Due to the degree of seriousness, promises dont seem to hold as they once did it is only prudent to substitute it with "commitment".
We, as individuals to develop personally and to grasp the principles of "self-growth" must be constantly thinking how we can develop ourselves to become the people we want to be undertaking the things that we want to do. Doing this in itself is a commitment.
Commitment is more personal than a promise as it is a stronger pledge than a mere promise. The underlying difference is that a commitment is generally something we do ourselves. Sure, we commit to helping our neighbor cut his old palm tree down but its more of something we want to do rather than just words without emotion attached. You commit yourself to your goals. You commit yourself to your short term and long term life plan.
How does this sound? "I promise Ill keep to my goals and dreams"??? It sounds weak plus it matters not to whom you share it as ultimately their important to you not other people. You need to make a commitment. A commitment is worth a hundred or more promises. No one can let you down more than yourself can. It really hurts. So, for heavens sake (and your own) make a commitment to yourself and stand behind it 100%. Dont fall victim to flimsy promises and you will begin to realize the power from within your own convictions.
