Keys to Achieving Your Dreams
Category: Personal Development For Marketeers | Date: 2001-03-13 |
I have developed an acronym that helps me focus on achieving my dreams. I call them my keys, because when I put them in the ignition I go somewhere! You can too. These are the basics of getting to where you want to go and where most people will never see! And best of all, now you will memorize them and have them with you for good!
D is for Dare
R is for Relentless
E is for Excellence
A is for Abandon
M is for Measure
Dare. The key to achieving something great is to dare to dream in the first place. While everyone else is living the status quo, the dreamer has the audacity to even think that he or she could achieve something so grand. Dare to be the one who sees the big deal. Dare to risk failure rather than play it safe. Dare to try something new. Dare to strike out on a new adventure. Do you dare? If you want to achieve your dream, you must!
Relentless. No one who got to their dream did it in a halfway kind of way. Any dream worth pursuing is worth pursuing relentlessly! And most of the time you will have to. There will most assuredly be hills and valleys along the way. There will be times when you think the dream is too big. There will be hills that seem too steep. There will be valleys that seem to go on forever. There will be turn after turn and you will wonder if you will ever achieve your dream - but you will - if you don’t give up. If you are relentless!
Excellence. Any dream worth dreaming about is worth doing in an excellent manner. If you dream of something mediocre you will never enjoy it and it certainly won’t help others! Dream of doing something excellent. Improve something. Make something. Whatever it is - make it excellent and you will receive your reward! The world doesn't need and certainly doesn't reward less than excellence so make it good. No, make it great!
Abandon. Abandon yourself to your dream. Cut any safety nets, because if you have them you will rely on them. When the going gets tough you will be tempted to go back to the coziness of them. That is fine - if you don’t want to achieve your dream. Tell yourself and others that there is only one acceptable option, and that is that come heck or high water you will achieve and live your dream!
Measure. This is the practical side of things. Your dream must in some way, shape or form be measurable. You must be able to know when you get there. You must be able to measure as you go along, so as to know without a doubt that you are making progress. This is very important - make your dream measurable and measure all along the way.
Put this to memory: Dare. Relentless. Excellence. Abandon. Measure. Think on them, put them up where you can see them, and remind yourself of them. They will be the keys that start your engine and get you moving toward the accomplishment of your dream! Success to you!
