Self Motivation! Everyone Wants It But Few Have It...
Category: Personal Development For Marketeers | Date: 2002-07-18 |
Everyone wants it, many say they have it and some indeed do possess it.
What is this obsession, that means so much to so many people?
Self motivation!
Who has it?......
Certain individuals have more self motivation than others. The fact that you are actually reading this article, shows that you are aspiring to find ways to improve your level of self motivation.
Reading this is the first step that shows you already have above average levels of self motivation.
Why have I chosen to include this article at this time of year? (This article was published January 2001, but the information applies to any time of the year)
Simply because January brings with it numerous New Years resolutions, many of you will look back over the previous 12 months and resolve to change your *lot* in life, increase the value of every waking hour, become more financially
independent and less dependent on any one source of income.
99% of you will make New Years resolutions - Of those....
40% of you will fail to keep your resolution past the first month.
25% of you will fail to remember your resolution that was made in haste possibly whilst under the influence of alcohol.
20% of you will blame your loss of resolve on someone else or on certain circumstances.
5% will give up your resolve within 24 hours.
AND 9% of you will succeed.
Which of the above percentages will you fall in?
Why do so many people fail to keep their resolutions?
Merely because usually a resolution is made as a very public declaration (for example at a New Years Eve party) and there is always a crowd of people issuing negative comments such as "you'll never do it" and when you fail the same crowd will often enunciate with great happiness "I told you so, I knew you wouldn't succeed"
All the above negativism apply to business and financial resolutions as well as personal improvements.
Here are my list of tips to help you stay motivated and succeed in accomplishing your New Year resolutions.
Always start with step by step objectives, leading up to your main goal.
Write your main goal at the top of a sheet of paper, then list 10 steps you can take to work towards this goal.
Associate with *like minded* people, enthusiasm is very contagious.
Avoid negative people as negativism is also very contagious.
Make a personal commitment to *think positively* every single day.
Make a personal commitment to positively change one small thing every day to work towards your goal.
Learn something *new* every 3 months, coinciding with the changing seasons, to learn is to grow.
Keep yourself fit and healthy.
For every step of your 10 step plan that you reach give yourself a treat.
Get enough sleep.
One thing is certain in life.....
If you continue to do this year, exactly the same as last year, you will be guaranteed the same results.
