Will Positive Affirmations Help You and Your Business?

You've probably heard it all before, perhaps even tried it out for yourself...positive affirmations, positive thinking...so what's new? Were you like me when I tried it out in the past? I felt like a robot saying things to myself that I didn't really believe, definitely didn't feel to be true, and which I felt were meaningless?
Therein lies the solution. It's in the beliefs, the feelings and the meanings that you associate with what you say to yourself that are key to whether affirmations work for you or not. The amazing thing is, we are already experts at affirmations that work! Most of us do affirmations every single day.....we just don't realise it. These affirmations are usually of a negative nature! "I'm too old, I'm too young, I'm not good enough, I haven't got enough education, I haven't got the time, I haven't got the money, I haven't done it before"! Sound familiar? Yet, we don't think twice about whether these affirmations work for us or not, we just do them! We do them easily and we do them consistently. And what do you know! We get just what we have been affirming!
Next time you catch yourself performing a negative affirmation, stop, and analyse it for a moment. Think about the three elements - belief, feelings and meaning - to what extent are each of these elements present? I am sure that many of you will find that all three are usually present! We beat ourselves up incredibly effectively, with such feeling and meaning that the belief (which is really and simply habitual thought) just follows through with little effort.
When it comes to positive affirmations, well, now there's a different story! We think, "Let's be positive", then we find the positive statement to affirm, and we say it over and over again to ourselves, with little belief, feeling or meaning. Then we say, "Thinking positive doesn't work!" or "Affirmations don't work!". How true! How can we expect to convince anyone else when we haven't even convinced ourselves!
So what's the solution? Affirmations work if you feel good when you say
them. It's what you feel when you say them that makes all the difference. It's what you feel when you say them that gives your affirmations the power. It's what you feel when you say them that make them really work.
So pick statements to affirm that make us feel like we believe them, that make us feel good and that mean something to us. My affirming "I see and feel $50,000 coming to me each month" to myself doesn't quite work - I don't believe it, it makes me feel like I am not there yet, and it means that I am definitely not there yet. However, affirming, "I allow myself to receive $50,000 each month" has a significantly different effect. It doesn't go against my belief system, it feels good to know that I am allowing myself to receive lots of dollars and it means that whenever those dollars are ready to roll through my door, my door is open!
Can you see and feel the difference?
Have a go for yourself. Play with it and have fun with it. Find those affirmations that feel good for you, and may they then start coming true for you.
Do let me know how you get on. And remember, don't give up after just a day or two! After all, how long would you give a baby to learn how to walk?
