Category: PR/Publicity and Media | Date: 2002-08-07 |
M\S Database Marketing recently attended the Seybold New York/Publishing 98 Conference produced by Ziff-Davis Comdex & Forums at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. We were attracted by the Internet-flavor show promoters were touting.
The show presented a separatist view of the publishing world - web vs. traditional print. Few exhibitors were addressing convergence and integration issues companies are facing. Adobe Systems Inc., a pioneer with its .PDF (Portable Document Format) technology, is a company addressing these issues. They offer publishing tools that compliment and harmonize the processes. At terrific case study is available on Adobes web site at http://www.adobe.com/studio/casestudies/miscknight/main.html.
Macromedia demonstrated very powerful web animation tools such as DreamWeaver, Flash, Freehand and Fireworks. If you are creating sophisticated animation sequences on the web, these are the tools for the job. Check them out at http://www.macromedia.com/software/.
Apple Computer had the largest presence at the show. "Think Different" banners dominated the walls and hung from the rafters. Steve Jobs reaffirmed Apples commitment to the desktop publishing marketplace saying, "Were listening to where we should expend our resources." It was a well-received message following Apples first profitable quarter in many months. Overall, the show is still dominated by the traditional print medium, but the smattering of Internet companies and publishing companies trying to adapt demonstrated the webs tremendous impact.
