Pay Per Click Secrets: Bid Gaps
Category: Search Engines - Keywords | Date: 2003-06-12 |
Pay Per Click secrets dont come much bigger than bid gap monitoring. This alone can stretch your budget by 70%. Closing bid gaps will naturally maximize your return on investment. Read on to find out more.
Over the last 3 years we have seen a growth in the Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Search Engine model. This was initially fashioned by Overture (formerly "goto.com"), but has quickly been followed by a whole host of PPC Search Engines. Here I will show you one of the biggest Pay Per Click secrets.
The concept is extremely simple. You bid on words you consider that people who would be interested in your website would search on. Overture now serves up hundreds of millions of search queries monthly and with their extensive alliances top 3 (premium) results get listed in for example , Yahoo!, Altavista and Ask. In fact, Overture claim that 75% of the Internet population will see their results.
Here is one of the biggest Pay Per Click secrets.
Last month "toy store" was searched about 28,000 times. With the tremendous volume of keyword bidding, there exist opportunities for your business to reduce bid costs while maintaining the same ranking!
As at 9th October the top 5 bids for "toy store" on Overture were, 41, 40, 32, 31 and 30 cents respectively. A company called "Relolinks" had secured second place with 40 cents per bid, but they could reduce their bid to 33 cents and still maintain second spot.
Their savings per-click would be 7 cents. Savings per thousand clicks would have been $70. Another example, is Red Wagons paying 40 cents per click for "toys" for first position on Overture. However, they could reduce their bid to 34 cents and still hold pole position.
The saving per 1000 click would be $60, but given "toys" had 1,402,791 searches last month and about 10% would click Red Wagons, they could save $8,416 a month and over $100,000 a year with Overture bid monitoring! When was the last time you checked your bids? You could reduce your bids while still maintaining the same ranking.
The biggest bid gap I saw was for a UK betting company paying Ј10.70 more than they needed to hold the top spot. Reducing their bid they saved Ј10,700 per 1000 clicks!
Whats the solution?
Well you could check your bids once a week, but often bids change daily if not hourly and checking your bids once a week is not ideal. You could sit in front of your screen or employ someone for $30,000 a year to monitor all your Pay Per Click bids. Alternatively, you could follow the choice of companies in the know and let professionals manage bids on your behalf at a fraction of the cost of hiring someone.
Blue Fruit can monitor bid gaps across multiple engines. Your savings in time and money will be significant, especially, but not exclusively if you have placed expensive bids.
Now that is one of the big pay per click secrets.
You should never see it as placing your bids and thats it. Bid monitoring is one of the big pay per click secrets.
