3 Hot Ways to Skyrocket the Final Selling Price of Your Web Site on eBay

Category: Selling Techniques Date: 2003-08-08
So…you’ve come up with a hot, in-demand web site. You’ve got the costs of producing it down to a minimum without comprising quality. You’ve written the perfect auction ad, packed with benefits and the details that turnkey website buyers want. So what now? Time to sit back and watch the bids stack up?...

‘Fraid not. Why put all that effort into saving money when creating the site and then not bother to push for the highest final selling price? eBay is one of the most heavily visited sites on the Net. Many people think that because it has a customer base of millions, they don’t need to bother promoting it anywhere else, especially just to a few hundred, or perhaps dozen people.

Actually it prove its worth…big time. What percentage of those millions of eBay users do you think will actually see your auction listing? A tiny percentage! How many will click on it? Perhaps a few. How many will bid? Fewer still.

Few people realize how important it is to promote their eBay auctions on and off eBay. The final price of your web site could easily double, if you knew the right places to advertise.

So, time for those 3 tips for pushing up the final selling price of your turnkey web site:

1. Advertise on forums and newsgroups. Now, I don’t suggest you buy one of those spam tool that posts to hundreds of newsgroups at once. You’ll do nothing but annoy people, ruin your reputation and maybe even lose your ISP.

A great way to build traffic to your auctions is to find a forum or newsgroup where your potential customers are likely to congregate. Here are a few to get you started:

The Warrior Forum - http://www.warriorforum.com/forum/

The Friends in Business Message Board – http://friendsinbusiness.com/board1/index.cgi?

Site Point Forums - http://www.sitepointforums.com/

Also, try these Newsgroups:
alt.biz
biz.marketplace
biz.entrepreneurs

Now, rather than posting a blatant add, which would certainly get removed from the forums, find a thread that you can add a useful comment or advice to. Perhaps someone is considering purchasing a turnkey website. You could post a reply giving advice about what to look out for and the best type of site to buy and then at the bottom of your message you could include a sig file (footnote).

The sig file could give a couple of lines about your business and a link to your website or auction listings. For example, here’s the one I use for SmallSiteSeller.com:

"Ensure Your Success with the Covert Secrets of Creating an In-Demand Website in Just a Few Days, and Selling it on eBay at an Astounding Profit!" http://www.smallsiteseller.com/d/t/9/

2. Start your own website. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy (although it must look professional). If you’re really hopeless at site design then I’d recommend hiring someone to do this, as well as the sites that you sell. But putting something decent together themselves shouldn’t exceed most people’s capabilities.

Use the site to explain about your business and give a link to your listings. Then you can work on driving traffic to your site. You can find some great information available on how to do this, although the scope of this article doesn’t extend that far. Check these out for some great sources of more info:

You could even allow people to buy the websites straight off your website. If you join Paypal (http://www.smallsiteseller.com/paypal.htm), you can get a payment link automatically generated for you. Just be sure not to price your websites below what you’re selling them for on eBay as this is against eBay’s rules and could get your auctions ended.

3. Joint ventures represent a great way to increase the traffic of any online business. Find a partner selling complimentary products and offer each others products to your customers. For example, you could team up with a website selling CGI scripts.

You could recommend that people who are ready to create their own site buy a script from them. They could recommend people who think web design and programming beyond them, to buy a site from you.

By now, I hope you can see that your work shouldn’t stop with the eBay listing. You now bear the knowledge that can dramatically increase the final selling price of your turnkey web site on eBay…but only if you apply it. And that part is down to you!
