When your visitors first get to your web site, does it load fast? Is it compatible with the main browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator? I recently learnt that our site looks fine when viewed in IE, but it was displayed badly in Netscape.
So check to make sure that your site operates well in a broad range of web browsers and you are not closing your doors to a large percentage of your target market who may not have similar Internet access software as what you are viewing your web site in.
The TEXT (or your Web COPY)
Okay, so youve got your site looking good in both browsers and now you have your customer looking at your web site.
Guess how long your customer has to decide till they usually click somewhere OFF your site? I think about 7 seconds. This is where your stats come in handy...
If people are coming to your site and are only staying for under a minute then you really have some problems with your text on your web site. I want you to think like the customer and have a very small attention span. This is usually the goal I stick to when writing the text.
Does it show what you and your company are about and what you sell within first glance? Is it easy to navigate without thinking too hard? You should want your site to just shout: "I sell this, this is why you should buy it!!" Then you can pull them into a more detailed sales pitch.
So take them from your front page to your product specific page or sales letter. Now if you are just selling one product, this can all be done on the first page and is usually done so.
The KEY to the ANSWER - INTERACTIVITY!
Great, you got past the hardest part. Now you have your potential customer ready to order... now what?
Ask this to yourselves? Have you ever gone to a web site and wanted to ask a question, but were too lazy to hunt down the email address and type out a detailed letter asking the question? You probably have been in this scenario and are now wondering how many of your potential customers also face the same situation.
