Building Traffic With A Compliment
Category: Traffic and Tracking | Date: 2001-11-12 |
I'm sure you understand the power of having your links placed on as many websites as possible. Aside from the obvious benefit of driving traffic to your site, you also benefit with a higher placement in search engines as well. They send out their robots to spider the web in search of content for their databases. Some of the largest search engines use "the number of links to your site" as a measurement for relevancy for your listing.
This is one of the reasons FFA pages became so popular. The problem with FFA pages is there are so many links placed on these pages through automated submission programs that your link drops off very quickly and you have to continually add your links to have them remain visible.
One way you can get links to your website that tend to be more permanent is by paying the webmaster a compliment. This strategy also works well with testimonials. If you had a good response from an ad you've placed, tell your publisher about it. If you purchased a product fro abc.com and their customer service was excellent tell them about it.
Give them permission to post your comments. Most of them will be glad to include a link back to your site in exchange for the use of your testimonial. The words of a satisfied customer are GOLD! It's one of the most powerful forms of advertising available.
We all like to hear when others say good things about us and we usually want to tell the world about it too. A smart webmaster will use testimonials and compliments in their promotional material and sprinkle them tastefully around their website.
If you aren't running any ads but you still want to use this strategy, take a few minutes a day to find 4 or 5 websites who's products and services compliment yours. Take some time to really look over their site. Notice the good things. You may be able to offer some "constructive" criticism (without being offensive or sarcastic) that would be of some help.
Do this on a consistent basis and before you know it you'll have hundreds of webmasters linking back to you.
