Do Traffic Generators Really Work?

Category: Traffic and Tracking Date: 2001-11-05
What exactly are traffic generators anyway? Well I'm sure you have seen them advertised one way or another. These traffic generators are a way to send visitors to your website for free.

Here's how it works. Once you register for free to any of these Traffic Generators, they allow you to earn "credits." (Each uses its own term other then "credits"). You earn these "credits" by a number ways including surfing, playing games, or even buying "credits."

Depending on each Traffic Generator, when surfing you can earn a "credit" for every page you are asked to visit, game you win etc. Many use a 1:1 ratio in which for every site you visit they will send a visitor to your site.

How do they do this? They use a special navigation that is usually within it's own frame of your browser. This usually shows you whether or not you earned a credit and has a countdown timer of usually 30 seconds.

If you stay at the site for 30 seconds or more a "credit" gets added to your account. Then they send someone to your site for each "credit" that you have earned. Free Traffic!

But does it really work?

If all you want to do is drive your hit counter crazy and show off to the world how many visitors you get everyday then this is a great way to do it. But if you are looking to make a sale it's more difficult.

The reason is, those who are using these systems to generate traffic, most likely will hit the "next" button as soon as the counter tells them they've stayed 30 seconds. That means they visit alright, but they don't stay.

If you want these visitors to stay and perhaps buy something too you need to make the first page they see, or the homepage really enticing. In other words, you've got to grab attention in a really big way and fast.

Don't put your incentive-type offer at the bottom of your page or even in the middle. Try to put it at the top. Or Use a very eye catching Headline-type of opening. Use eye catching colors in bold or underline that are easy on the eyes but grab attention.

If you intend to use this type of system to drive traffic to your site, it is even more vital for you to get their attention so they stay. The page must load fast and offer something of value that they want. Only then will you make sales or leads using these systems.

Here are just a couple of Traffic Generators that I've used and work generally well. To be most effective in sending lots of traffic, open a browser window for 3-5 different Traffic Generators that you've registered for and just switch between each clicking away.

Have fun and try to take a look at some of the sites you visit. Some are very good and I have found useful in information or even ideas for my own business.
