How I Received Top Search Engine Rankings
Category: Traffic and Tracking | Date: 2002-04-11 |
Ever wonder what it would be like to get a top ranking in the search engines?
Well, a few months ago I ran across a Web site claiming to know the techniques for high rankings. All without resorting to risky methods that engines may frown on as cheating.
Needless to say, I was a little curious. After all, I'm always looking for ways to increase traffic to my site, and millions of searches each day by millions of users is a pretty good reason to be curious.
Turns out this site is ran by Ken Evoy. He uses an approach that he characterizes as low maintenance using nothing more than common sense.
He set up his first site, PennyGold, a couple of years ago using the techniques he devised. And he says that recently he decided to check his rankings with the major search engines... after two years.
Quoting from Ken's October 4th Site-Sell newsletter...
"I chose one of the important keywords that I tried to master
way back then... "penny mining stocks". I entered this
into every major SE. I also looked for the more generic
"penny stocks." What a shocker..."
-----SIDEBAR----
You can double-check the results. Just do what the vast
majority of searchers do (URLs supplied below)...
o use each SE's default settings
o enter "penny mining stocks" (without the quotes).
-----SIDEBAR----
"Despite the fact that I have neglected my SE program for
almost two years, and despite the fact that there is a ton
of new competition (I was surprised to see just how many),
my first site still did quite well..."
-----SIDEBAR-----
"Your goal is to be on Page 1 of any search result. So that's
what I stick to below..."
-----SIDEBAR-----
"Here's how PennyGold scores for the major SEs..."

"Consider the cumulative power of the above kind of results.
Then multiply that by similar results for 40 other keywords.
It's kind of like throwing a net on the Net..."
"... and it brings back only targeted customers... without
harming or tricking the engines."
"You know what? I don't do anything complicated. I don't
design for each engine. One size fits all. I don't try to
trick the engines. And the MYSS! SE program simply brings in
targeted traffic, day after day, month after month, year
after year."
So you see, Ken has designed a program that that doesn't require all night sessions manipulating your site or building separate pages optimized for the different search engines.
The results of his methodology speak for itself.
I even tried out his techniques myself. I designed a page following his advice with astounding results...
...I entered my search term in Altavista and there was my page at #10!
