By now most of you have probably heard of Viral Marketing. You know, where you somehow get others to piggyback your material or ads onto their own material and distribute it to everyone they know, then those people do the same, and before you know it millions of eyeballs are exposed to your stuff with very little initial effort on your part.

Sounds ideal doesnt it? So how do you put viral marketing to work for your site? Below are a few suggestions: Lets Dance!

1. Doing The Ebook Boogy.

Create your own free electronic book (ebook) and offer it to marketers and ezine publishers to give away as a bonus at their sites. Of course your URL and an offer or two will be included. Plus, dont forget to pre-licence your book by including a paragraph in the book letting people know that they can do the same for free too!

2. Doing The HotMail Hop.

Surf on over to http://www.bigmailbox.com and sign up for their free email@yourdomain.com service. You can offer your site visitors free email accounts and every mail that they send will be branding your URL. Not to mention the fact that you get to include a small text ad in every email that goes out as well, just like HotMail.com did!

3. Doing the Tell-A-Friend Tango.

There are almost as many Recommend this site and Tell a friend scripts out there as there are friends. Surf over to http://www.recommendit.com, sign up for their service, install their button on your site and ask your visitors to recommend your site to their friends. An excellent way to spread your URL far and wide.

4. Doing The Send A Card Shuffle.

When is the last time you sent an electronic greeting card to a friend? Sites like BlueMountain.com and PassThisOn.com are in the top 100 highest traffic sites on the web, mainly because of greeting card and referral scripts.

Want your own greeting card script? Get it from http://www.bignosebird.com, set it up at your site with a few cool images for the cards and Viola! Your sites visitors will have a ball sending your cards (and your URL) to their friends.

One thing I must mention here is that your website has to be unique in some way for these methods to work. People will not refer your site to their friends unless it is notable in some way. Quality content, uniqueness, valuable resources, etc. should in place or your viral marketing efforts will quickly fizzle.

Folks, all of the above services and scripts are free and can potentially generate a massive amount of traffic to your sites. Give them all your own twist, add a little customization, a pinch of personality and youll have a ton of new and repeat visitor eyeballs exposed to your site on an ongoing basis.
